They also cancelled their performance in Newport tonight.

Not good news. I was looking forward to hearing how their sound would evolve next.

They cancelled tonight as Russell had to have surgery on his hand that couldn't wait till after their UK tour, nothing to do with any un-rest in the band.

I hope this doesn't signal the end of them, only really got into them last year so only seen them live twice so far.

Aye but I thought I should just make it clear before people start putting 2+2 together

It would be a shame if he did quit. They're the best band we've produced in a while and the thing that makes them so great is the fact that every member is a master of their craft. Any other band loses its drummer it doesn't really matter, they get a replacement and no one tells the difference but in Bloc Party, any member quitting would leave a gaping hole. Matt's the most talented drummer around.

I saw them in Glasgow at the start of the year and then the other week in Edinburgh. I even got to meet Russell at the after show party in Glasgow

Having read the article and listened to the interview, he is talking about Kele, Russell and Gordon all doing musical ventures on the break whilst he will probably not. Not once does he say he will quit. It is a sensationalist story but I will ask him if I see him in reading next friday!
