I'm not really a fan of Jazz, just one or two tracks here and there.
Moondog - Bird's Lament http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL1F4...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYWin4f0L6E (a little slower) |

Im in a jazz group at school and am doing an inprovised section on my sax - wouldn't mind some inspiration, and a little bit of jazz never hurt

my absolute favourite jazz vocalist is a woman called rachelle ferrell, search for her on youtube, best performances include autumn leaves, i know you love me and bye bye blackbird. her album first instruments is amazing, although it does get very shouty and squealy, maybe a bit much for a newbie to jazz. but i love it!

Take a look at this Yahoo thread about listening to jazz. When I started listening to it I pretty much followed Teaim's advice on that thread (second answer down) -
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream Roland Kirk - Inflated Tear Grant Green - Matador Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage Horace Silver - Song for My Father I found all those really good, easy to get into even though I hadn't listened to much jazz before. Really, it depends what you've listened to already and whether you're looking for older/modern jazz music. I found those albums to be really good starting points. |

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue Duke Elllington - Ellington Live at Newport Herbie Hancock - Headhunters Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil Wynton Marsalis - Standard Time Weather Report - Black Market I'm more of a classic rock, pre 80s RnB and soul listener but I have to say that Wayne Shorter and Wynton Marsalis were the best live shows I've been to in my life. Very moving, it was awsome |
