I do feel sorry for Laila. She drew the short straw with the partnership selection. I believe (as has been said on here already) that she would do a lot better with one of the other pros. She definitely has ability so a partner who is a good teacher and can bring the best of of his celebrity would do a great job with her. Unfortunately for her, Anton is not that type of pro.

I think his shortcomings have been exposed this year when he finally got a decent partner (no disrespect to his prior ones).

Know it was a bit of a dancing disaaarster but admired the way they both kept going when it all went haywire in the middle. At least they were both able to laugh and get on with it and not give up and head for the stairs.

Although I wasn't expecting much it was certainly much worse than I thought it would be.

My guess is that his latin, which was never great, has got worse when compared to SCD 1, because he doesn't do much teaching nowadays and so may rarely dance latin (whereas before SCD started he may have had teach it on a regular basis, even though his specialism was ballroom). (Apologies if someone has already posted this)

He never taught Latin prior to scd. But as said before, the likes of Matt, Ian and Brendan never taught ballroom, but they seem to have managed to up their game.

Couldnt Anton have got Darren or Matt or Lilia in to help him choreograph that jive? He clearly doesnt have a bloody clue what a jive is supposed to look like. It was like someone's dad dancing at a wedding reception. Awful.

I had heard that Anton did use to offer latin lessons (albeit not very advanced ones) alongside the ballroom ones. I wasn't making excuses for him - just trying to understand why he's even worse now than he was in earlier series.

He is definitely the weakest of the Male pros at the Latin. It was not a good routine!

I have heard this on another forum. I have also heard that he is a terrible teacher full stop. Apparently his classes were all about him and his ego.

Ive always like Anton but im going off him a little. The buffoon act is wearing very thin now, and ive also heard none too nice stories about him being a stroppy diva whilst competing.

he looks really ill I feel really sorry for him x
I think the last few weeks has caught up with him and has made him ill. He must have lost quite a bit of weight judging by the look of him, he is very gaunt looking. Poor Anton, he needs someone to look after him.

Can't speak for Matt or Brendan, but Ian certainly taught (and teaches) ballroom, and from beginners upwards - he comes from a dance school background and taught in his stepmum's school through much of his competitive career, which would have meant both Latin and ballroom.

Darren is another one whose background of real-world teaching really shows on Strictly. Some of the pros really excel not just at teaching their celebs routines, but really explaining points of technique, and real dance school teaching experience helps that enormously.

The routine was too fast, thats the crux of it, had Laila been able to cope with the speed it would have been a passable routine, but as it was it looked like a car crash.
Anton should have picked a slower piece, I don't know what he was thinking!!!!

I love Anton and I have to say that unlike some other posters on this thread I think that he has tried to improve his latin over the years, there was certainly a much wider variety of steps in this Jive routine than his past few efforts. Plus the fact that he is sort of taking part in the group pro latin dances shows he is trying, he never used to take part in these at all!

The last few weeks have definately affected him and I only hope that he and Laila can bounce back with more confidence.

Whether or not he should be replaced is a difficult one, I just think he should get some more help with choreographing his latin routines.

The routine was awful the weirdest Jive steps I have ever seen have said it for years Anton's latin is not good enough for him to be on the show.

As for other posts re Brendan and Matt they are qualified teachers in BOTH ballroom and latin - and can dance both styles - I hope Anton has samba this week will be worse than the jive.

no point getting help with the latin routines -- he would not be capable of dancing them

I thought Anton, personally, jived very well and in quite a traditional fashion, which would have appealed to Len. Laila had difficulties with the dance but she didn't do too badly and there are other dances in which she can excel.

It did look as if it was old style, I didn't mind it either.

My thoughts exactly. He needs to suck it up and get some help with his latin if they're gonna progress. I really cannot get over how much that dance honked this week, v shocking.

Normally, I'd like anything to blot out what Tess says but ANton gets on my wick speaking whilst Tess is talking to the viewer.

It was a total fiasco.

I think of the male pros who are already out (Matt, Darren) and am sad that they never got a chance at a decent partner.

People have been complaining for years that Anton keeps getting duff partners. This is why.
He cannot choreograph or dance Latin numbers well and he appaers to be unable to teach them well either.
Well, if he is back nect year he should be back to the oldies as he is slowly proving he cannot produce good latin routines.

He was extremely annoying last night as he constantly interrupted Tess and the judges to blather on and try to be funny.

Past his shelf life.
This says just what I was thinking, too.

I feel really sorry for Laila, because Anton seems to think it's all about him rather than the partnership. I don't think he was just being annoying when he talked over Tess, he was being incredibly rude.

If you saw Anton walking on water you would dispute it as you have some sort of thing about him. You very rarely have a good word to say about him, does it go back to your dancing days. I wonder did he ever beat you in a comp and you still can't get over it. Remember everyone has a weak point but most observers grin and bear it not just bear their teeth and go for it. What has he done to upset you so

Bendy really loathes Anton, goes back a long way. I got major deja vu reading your post, as I was asking her the same question on this board years ago.

But give bendy her dues she knows her stuff about dancing, whereas I am just a dancing fan, so I respect her opinion even if I don't agree with it.

I forgive Anton for all his faults, can't explain why really, I just love him!

Yup, Bendy never misses an opportunity to vent her spleen about Anton . I have rarely seen anyone with such a vendetta against him. Who cares if Anton wasn't nice to her brother 100 years ago:yawn:, that's in the past, but bendy & her brother seem to have a real problem leaving it there .

Anton was fine, Laila, all over the place. If she just concentrated, she would have been okay I think.
