What's happened with the quality this series?!
FluffyEgg

At the start, I thought we had a lot of potential winners.

Now we are left with what? A few triers and a lot of dross.

The quality this year is surely the worst ever. Everyone seems to have peaked too soon!

Agreed! The worst thing is we're stuck with the dross for a good few weeks yet because there's so much of it!
FluffyEgg

At least the judges are aware of the dross

Haha. I don't think they managed to rank them correctly though.

There was a Dancing On Ice series like this and it seemed to go on forever. In a way I hope we don't get any shock eliminations because there are only 5 or 6 good couples and we can't afford to lose them.

I was just thinking has there ever been a series where the celebs just can't get the dances, each week there are so many mistakes - can't remember any other series that almost all the celebs are making mistakes still.

Tonight was disappointing.

Chris showed so much promise at the start but has fallen by the wayside.

Laila excels at the Ballroom but her Latin leaves a lot to be desired.

Natalie is good but isn't improving fast enough.

The two Jo's are never going to be dancers.

Zoe keeps getting copious amounts of praise but I'm not sure why.

The only person to truly challenge Ali and Ricky is Jade.

I thought it was just me. Dancing with the Stars 9 has much more talent with only a couple duff celebs. SCD seems the other way 'round.

And Zoe in the dance off? Makes you wonder about how the public are perceiving this show lol

I agree - I thought the standard was pretty low tonight. I was really disappointed in Chris. When he started to dance I thought we were going to get a good traditional Jive. Such a shame he forgot where he was.

Hmm. It's not too late for someone to have a bit of a transformation.

Ricky, Ali and Jade are all good, though.

The one thing I'm grateful for is that the judges aren't claiming that this is the most talented series yet, or that it's the hardest or whatever other inane comments they usually make.

I haven't got into this series at all and I felt really guilty when others were stating it was their favourite series yet. I thought I was missing something obvious.

But that show tonight was awful. The VW is relatively easy ffs, if you can't score well at that, there is no hope for you and those jives?

I'm off to youtube to watch Austin's jive.

It's always been the case with the public vote. Just be thankful that Calzaghe has finally gone.

I'm not sure I agree that the quality is worse this series. Ricky and Natalie are outstanding, Ali and Brian and Zoe and James are excellent; Jade and Ian are very good, the rest are not bad, and the ones trailing at the bottom of the leaderboard are mostly entertaining and enthusiastic. Tonight I really enjoyed some of the waltzes, in particular Jade and Ian, Phil and Katya and Ricky and Natalie.

I found tonight really boring, i was switching over to X Factor in bits of it, but that wasn't much better.

Have to agree with all of this. I have always adored this programme but for the first time I have caught myself flicking over to X factor because of boring dance performances. Between that, lacklustre celebrities and Alesha as a judge this series now becoming a 'don't care if I miss it'. I never thought I would think that

you wouldnt have thought so by looking at some of the judges marks, far too high

I'm sorry about Chris too, I wonder if his nerves suffered by waiting to go on last. He has so much potential

I think it has to go down as one of the worst programmes ever, it was difficult to decide who should have gone there were so many who deserved to.

Zoe so over marked and over praised it was staggering.

Critics, please hold your horses till week 7 or 8. If you still don't see any improvements then, moan as much as you like. But I for one am glad there's no all round talent this year who's a shoe-in for the trophy, like Jill ½d or Aleesha. What makes this show for many people is the J-word. Some celebs are still queueing for their tickets for this, it's true, but I'm sure a few will turn into dancers.

I agree I've found the standard generally a bit disappointing. There's no one really terrible (arguably Joe C but he's gone now) and there's no one I look forward to watching from a dance perspective. Last year Austin & Erin, Rachel & Vincent and Cherie & James I all looked forward to watching.

I love Chris & Ola to bits and he keeps messing it up on the night and it's starting to get a tad frustrating.

I like watching Ricky & Natalie but it's not thrilling. Ali & Brian suffer from a bit of Chris & Ola syndrome and I don't find Jade & Ian very attractive to watch at all.

In total agrement.

I also agree with your post, I think it's too early to judge. Some contestant came out really strong the first few weeks, because they have several weeks of training and so are now flaging. I think once all the basics of each dance is learnt then we shall see the real contenders.

I think last year was particularly good, with Austin, Tom, Rachel, Cherie and Lisa all starting off at a good standard.

This year, there has only been Ricky W and Ali at that standard, albeit with Ali having a couple of hiccups.
We have some consistent improvers, in Jade, Ricky G, Phil and Natalie.
For me, Zoe falls in between those groups, having started well, but I think a lot of that is down to James's very clever choreography.

We had 16 starters this year and a more difficult start schedule (learning two dances in four weeks) so the start of the show was always going to have more strugglers. With so many people and so many train wrecks, it doesn't make for good entertainment. One or two train wrecks is as much as the show can carry.

Maybe the pressure gets higher every year, and especially this year? All the celebs just seem SO nervous! :/
I think Jade & Ian have been the most consistent (as in good ) so far.
