1999 - 2009 - a decade of random hits
What has this decade brought to the music industry?
A band that has none of its original members left. (Sugababes 4.0) The amazingly succesful white rapper eminem Lots of old bands re uniting and reforming. take that, spice girls etc.. Deaths of many legends, such as Staphen Gately, Micheal Jackson etc.. X Factor and pop idol dominating the Christmas charts But there is actually some really random good tunes. So many talent show acts though. How many of these do you remember? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqNgAlMLjhk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAN4yCKwA2U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnN2o8hf8tk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRCBy8hrOIM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1rZg3wLJ0o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID4-NAOYjYQ |

What's worse than remembering them, is that I liked them all

He might not be as huge as Jackson but anyone who gets to bring out more than one top ten single is doing well in the modern competitive cut throat industry

He was part of a group who just happened to be popular at the time. I doubt he would have lasted 5 minutes as a solo artist.
and it was easier to make it as an original singer in the 70's / 80's than it was in the late 90's |

The awful number by Princess Superstar I remember, but the Sneddon one passed me by. I didn't recognise the Nadia one either. So I recognised 4 out of 6, and all of them were by acts that didn't last long. |

And if you want to talk legends, consider Brian Wilson's 'SMiLE' album which was released in 2004. Nothing comes close to that this decade in pop music. |

I love that Adam Rickitt track! Funnily enough I was looking at the chart in 1999 the other day and I had forgotten what a good summer it was for music.
Anne Lee- 2 Times Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone Basement Jaxx - Red Alert ATB -9pm Til I Come Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) Cher - All Or Nothing Lou Bega - Mambo Number 5 Pete Heller - Big Love Phats and Small - Turnaround Vengaboys - Boom Boom Boom (Haha crap but good fun!) Wamdue Project - King of My Castle Just some of my personal faves that bring back happy memories of great summer nights out and having fun. In 1999 I knew all the records in the top 10, and bought half of them. Today, I couldn't even tell you who is number 1, because I don't listen to them anymore as I absolutely cannot stand this R'n'B bling bling music that todays youth seems to be obsessed with.. For me 99% of chart music from about 2004 onwards is rubbish. There's no singalong happy fun music in the charts today. Thats the biggest change from 1999-2009 as far as I can see. |

when we leave this decade I think we will look back on it fondly, like we do the 80';s and 90's just now. All those random hits makes it comparable to the 80's and 90's.
However, with the exception of a few the "big" hits of this decade can't be compared to the big hits of the 80's and 90's. power ballads, grunge, rap, rock, pop, cheesy dance etc |

Oh dear! And those links you posted are some of the worst songs I've ever heard. In fact your thread title might as well read: "Reasons why the noughties were pants"

I have to agree with serveral posts on this thread UK Charts went downhill as soon spring 2004 came along it became ever so American .
Here's a couple tunes i enjoyed from 1999 onwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajdmA7qoYZ4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhnEUatLa2w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgvePeDIt3Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOnfkaM6PME http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA39yqwnX98 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShNbXXnJ0jw |
