Does ESPN stop at dead at 3am?
I have asked this question on my other thread but thought i would get an answer with its own posting.
Does ESPN show the whole of a baseball game even if it over runs the 3am hour mark, for example tonight/early hours of Monday morning they are showing a game whos time slot is 1am-3am the programme guide states that from 3am ESPN is off air. So my question is does ESPN go dead at 3am or will they carry on showing a live game after this time

........and that is why it is available "free" or "no extra charge" with a BT Vision Package, because charging for such an offering as that , would border on robbing the viewer.....

I like Rugby League, but sadly ESPN have only shown some Australian rugby... not much use with the live Friday or Saturday morning matches or any potential State of Origin game and as the original poster pointed out, it doesn't help much with the early morning american sport. It surely must present problems too when the SPL match kicks off at 11.30. |

its a 'free' add on to an overpriced service, with value that could be described by some as limited.

I cant see any SPL matches that kick off at 11:30 - the earliest matches that I can see kick off at 12:30pm which is easily covered by ESPNs hours. ESPN provides 30 live SPL games featuring all teams within the SPL - I reckon alot of SPL fans would pay for that quite easily. TUTV charge £10 a month for ESPN and I think thats quite fair for what it offers :- http://www.espn.co.uk/sports-on-espn/ If it doesnt float your boat then dont worry as its free on BTVision anyway. |

Your point is somewhat lost here as I and many others can easily say the same about Sky, Virgin etc etc etc. But hey - it's a negative comment and that seems to be all you have in your bag.
I was just making the comment between the overpriced and poor value BT pack (line rental/broadband in the main) and the so called 'free' ESPN. in fact it is possible to actually pay for ESPN on Satellite, to get a complete service and overall save money on the BT pack by moving the broadband etc. to another company. 'free' isn't quite true and it is disingenuous to say it is. |

Sky and Virgin don't give ESPN away or any other channels as far as I can tell.

Yeah it's free - that's obvious to most with common sense no matter what kind of negative spin you try and put on it. Also, cheaper doesnt always mean better.
with a mentality like that I wish all my customers were like that.. fine, it's free.. I suspect that some of the more enlightened posters on here can see the obvious folly of the argument though. |

we are missing the obvious here.
ESPN isnt limited hours because it wants to its because it has to. ESPN runs through TUTV's gateway platform. and basically theres no room on freeview so during the day time on one of the TUTV Anytime slots they put ESPN there (formerly setanta). it could go on mux C where theres endless amount of wasted space thanks to sky. two news channels in high bitrate when not needed, extra Slot not being used held to ransom by sky. so if the quality was tweaked a tad and that slot freed up then you'd have room for two more, either ESPN goes there, or something off mux A goes there and ESPN gets its 24 hours. so its not BT's fault. its technology's fault for having a limitation on DTT. |

This begs the question, that im sure Mr Watson would like answered, why it is millions seem happy to pay for sport content and extras than enhance that same content and why even he himself admits the lack of uptake to BT Vision , even with reduced ESPN Freeview channel as an extra to a BT Vision package You would perhaps be better emailing your thoughts and ideas to Marc Watson? It would appear he wants ideas and inspiration more than the paying subscribers or lack of them.... |

I have just added the ESPN and ESPN America on a trial for 3months at £4.50. I can now watch it 24hrs either in HD or record it on the multiroom box upstairs and so far I've watched 2 matches . No point penny pinching if one wants serious sports television and ESPN and ESPN America will be switched off in January, I have enough rugby union, heineken cup, superleague, champions league, premiership footie, spl ,cricket , golf etc etc to keep me happy without another network and theres always EurosportHD or LiverpoolFC TV or Real Madrid TV and ESPN classic if push comes to shove. Its worth noting that a few weeks ago an away ticket for the Brum v Villa match was £48 a ticket. I think that puts any subs paid to a tv company in some context. I always laugh at these that think its some sort of folly to pay for sport. What they should do is get themselves to Anfield Rd this sunday lunchtime , explain you have a BT Vision pack and you wish to get in for free. Its like a gentleman on the Virgin section who had been emailed asking him how much he would be willing to pay extra for HD Movies and or Sports if Virgin provided such a service. Given a selection of answers, he proudly said he would not be willing to pay anything extra .How does he expect any company to provide a serious sport/movie service for nowt? Again, perhaps he should take himself to the nearest cinema complex and try and get in a see a movie for free.....and at the end of the day, no one is forced to pay subs , which then relates back to the comments that the CEO made just last week and the lack of uptake for this bargain BT Vision servcie. |

That my friend is an example of the old saying "If you want something you gotta pay for it" So sadly you can set your Bt Freeview box anywhich you choose, you aint gonna record a signal that aint there.

its flipping stupid,
theres nothing 'wrong' in saying that some things are just too costly. but in warriors and matterhorns eyes then its a case of pay up or do without. people like BT and TUTV are trying to make a middle ground here.. whereby those who cannot afford Sky and its HD, can actually enjoy some premium content of some sort. why should I pay an arm and a leg (and currently do) for sky sports? you know whats even worse value matterhorn is the fact that Sky player maxes out at £41 a month and you need a bloody good pc and broadband too. its OK quality but it certainly aint no HD. to be frank sky player's channels have such drivel on during the days, ok the VOD Films are worth it. but when you get sky1 as VOD only and lost S5 aint even on there then why the hell is it costing so much? the biggest problem here is that you feel that sky is better value than BT vision, probably is but you are consistantly forcing that view on others. hmm lets see then i have a plan. |

Given the new hours mentioned above (conveniently ignored by some) I would be interested to know if your recording worked out ok last night. Unless the new hours havent kicked in yet - not sure myself as I dont have the service.
then when that finished they aired a football game. The wife was not happy. |
