Brit Awards 2010 - Some early predictions
The Brit Awards are always one of the awards shows I always look forward to. And probably the most hyped music awards show in the UK.
So when the nominees are announced in January, who do you think will be going away with a lot of nominations based on what has happened in the music industry in 2009. I think (whether people like it or not), lots of X Factor people will get nominations. Cheryl is set to be huge. Her debut single has sold something like around 150,000 in 2 days (am i rite ?) and will probably go on to have huge album sales. I can see her being nominated for a few, and winning the ones which the public vote for. JLS + Alex I think will get a few. Possibly Leona and Susan Boyle depending on how well they do. I don't think any X Factor people will actually win any awards though unless it's a public voting one. I also can see Florence and the machine, Little Boots, Pixie Lott amongst others being nominated. What do you think ? |

seriously? if the Brits still has any credibility, Cheryl won't even be nominated for anything, why the hell would she be? but if she's nominated for anything voted for by the public then she will obviously win, because of all her young fans. nothing to do with musical talent.
anyway hasn't there been a few threads about Brits 2010 predictions already? |

I hope they get Gaga to pefrom. I love her live performances. Maybe a collaberation with someone better than the Pet Shop Boys.

I think they'll give Leona loads of awards, last time she hadn't quite taken off in America etc
apart from that I think we'll see Dizzie, Tinchy Strider and Taio Cruise up there in the running and no doubt Annie Lennox and Beck will be nominated because they've been on the nominees list since 1901 and nobody's bothered to take them off again. |

I think if they can snub Leona Lewis in favour of Kate Nash then their aversion to The X Factor will continue (one or two token nominations but NO wins allowed).
Lady Gaga is a shoo-in for International Female (her fee's slightly cheaper than Beyonce for one thing). Black Eyed Peas looks ominous to get International Group unless they want to be slightly snobby and go for *YAWN* Green Day (U2 will be nominated but won't win). International Male is kind of interesting but it depends if they can get Eminem or not (they're very lazy and he's very expensive so I expect an acceptance speech by video i he wins). If not it might even go to the likes of David Guetta or Daniel Merriweather but not Bob Dylan. British Female: Lily Allen Alexandra Burke Bat for Lashes Florence & The Machine Speech Debelle Spoilers: Leona Lewis, Paloma Faith, Little Boots, Pixie Lott, La Roux (they'll stick Elly and the other one in here not Group) PREDICTION: Hard to pick a winner but even though they don''t like her, it's surely Lily Allen? If Pixie Lott gets a nomination this is fixed as fook as she's going to win. British Male: Taio Cruz Paolo Nutini James Morrison Dizzee Rascal Robbie Williams Spoilers: Calvin Harris, Tinchy Stryder, Mika, Chipmunk. PREDICTION: Robbie Willaims is getting Outstanding Contribution so he may even get the double like Tom Jones did but I'll say Dizzee Rascal wins. FYI: Last non-white winner of this category was Finlay Quaye back in 1998. British Group: Arctic Monkeys Kasabian Editors Girls Aloud Muse Spoilers: The Prodigy and oooh-eck, N-Dubz PREDICTION: Kasabian's time surely? This awards show is going to be fairly interesting until the producers put their bets on to clobber the bookies and ruin the surprise of who wins...winners are announced at the rehearsal on the day but still the Brit Awards are hardly about integrity and hush-hush no-one-must-know-until-the-envelope-is-opened-PriceWaterhouseCoopers-type-secrecy is it!? |

N-Dubz were not nominated in this category last year, despite their last album ("Uncle B") having been released in November 2008, and have not released an album since.

Expect JLS to win best british single/breakthrough act since it's voted for by the public. Just look at the MOBOs...
Alexandra won't win any, Leona might win a few and Cheryl won't win any too. I think Gaga will definitely get best international female (or male )JayZ will probably win best international male Leona will most probably get best British Female Taio Cruz will probably get best british male I can see BEP/Muse winning the group awards And as per usual, an indie band winning best international/british album. EDIT: Prodigy and Rihanna and Leona have to win some awards next year or i'm switching off permanently |

I dunno about that. Best British Single could have JLS, Alexandra Burke and Cheryl Cole in the final five which would probably reflect that it's the default 'pop music' consolation category.
Best British Breakthrough Act is a little more interesting as it might pit the likes of Florence and the Machine, La Roux, Little Boots, Mr Hudson (Q Award winner so don't be surprised by this 'surprise' nomination) against the likes of JLS and Pixie Lott. Scratch James Morrison of the list as I don't think he's eligible (nominated last year). Jamie T has an outside chance to get a nomination. If they don't want Arctic Monkeys to win for a third time it'll be Muse vs. Kasabian for Best British Group. I'll be surprised if Kasabian get Best British Album and Muse get Best British Group but stranger things have happened. Last year was incredibly strong in regards the international categories but not so much this year. I can see Lady Gaga getting Female and Album. |

I doubt many X Factor people will get nominated.. the Brits like to keep that balance of commerical success and credibility. Thats why the nominations are "safe" every year.
Alex Burke won't be nominated for best female ahead of artists like Little Boots, Lily Allen, Florence, Pixie Lott and the token obscure one that's better than all of them put together but won't win.... Bat For Lashes Despite releasing disapointing albums this year Muse and Arctic Monkey's will be nominated for best group to add to the "cool" factor while deserving groups such as Wild Beats and The Horrors will be shunned, not may people have heard their music so they won't exactly bring in viewing figures. For me Kasabian has been the best British artist this year but will only be nominated because the Brits committee would have studied the Guardian, NME, Q etc's end of year best albums lists and thought "yea they seem like a good option" they did the same with Elbow last year and of course there's the overrated artist that occupies radio 1's playlist all day every day and the critics and fans think they're so original but really they're not doing anything that hasn't been done before.. I am of course talking about La Roux anyways that's my two cents |

I would choose:
British Female: Florence & The Machine or La Roux or Bat For Lashes (Good strong British female musicians none of this RnB crotch thrusting American mimicking produced by Cowell and co.) British Male: They're all pretty much crap! New Act: Ou Est Le Swimming Pool or Florence and the machine or La Roux Group: Kasabian or Editors or Friendly Fires |

The Brit awards usually prove to be celebrating the 'trendy' musicians and very few British acts that actually win are very rarely seen again (anyone remember the darkness?).
But these are my predictions for who I think will win, not who I neccessarily want to win: British Female: Pixie Lott British Male: Robbie Williams Group: JLS Best Album: Florence and the Machine Best Song: Cheryl Cole "Fight for this Love" Breakthrough: Tinchey Stryder Best Live Act: Muse International Male: Michael Jackson maybe? International Female: Lady Gaga or Beyonce Not sure if I've left out any categories... |

Hmmm. Just had a little think about this. I think I read somewhere a couple of years ago that they have to have released an album in the UK in the past year to be eligible for a nomination, but I might have got that wrong. If true, rules out some peoples predictions I've seen, such as Girls Aloud and James Morrison.
I reckon: British Male: Dizzee Rascal British Female: Florence + The Machine (if not considered a group. If they are, Leona who I think has managed to shake off her X Factor tag now). British Group: Kasabian (Florence if she's classed as a group) Album: 'Lungs' - Florence + The Machine or Kasabian - 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' Single: JLS (seriously, do not underestimate their fanbase. Not my choice but it's a public vote so...) British Breakthrough: JLS (see above!) International Male: Jay-Z International Female: Lady GaGa International Album: Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 |

![]() Antony and the Johnsons was nominated as Best British Male (he lost to James Blunt) so I wouldn't be surprised to see Florence and the Machine in the Best British Female category. The eligibility period for an album I think is December to December (not easy to Google it appears and the rules don't seem to be on the official website!) but they seemingly change it all the time. The last time was to counteract the embarrassment of having a 15 month qualifying period and having put up the same nominee for at least two years running (Kid A and Born to Do It were nominated two years running, as well as Atomic Kitten for Best Newcomer having been nominated previously the year before. Dido got her nomination revoked and was replaced by Tom McRae). Critics' Choice will be interesting. I reckon that'll most likely give it to Ellie Goulding (watch out for the inevitable pelters for the next twelve months, Miss Goulding!). FYI: I never knew Simon Cowell has NEVER attended a Brit Awards ceremony! |

Adele, Florence and the Machine and now, Ellie Goulding. Nothing new to update really...Peter Kay's hosting and the organisers have updated their website. http://www.brits.co.uk/brits-2010 Nominations are on Monday 18th January with the show on Tuesday 16h February. Gonna be revising my predictions as to who'll be nominated. I think Pixie Lott looks ominous for the win in Best British Female...she's young, blonde, pretty, mainstream and has various commercial endorsements so they'll want to pimp the hell out of her even though her album hasn't sold particularly well. I will LOL if the through-the-grapevine rumour that Susan Boyle gets nominated is true. Best British Male is in a right state of indifference unless you happen to be a fan. |

Isn't the best song based on the YTD charts? I mean, The X Factor finalists and Alexandra Burke were both nominated last year. If so, JLS aren't in the top 10. Cheryl Cole will be, as will BEP and Lady Gaga.
I think Cheryl Cole will win that, as it's voted for by the public Girls Aloud won it last year, so their fans have the power to do it. |
