...for being a souless/personality-less dullard who wants to win;

Read this entry on his blog posted today

http://rickywhittle.com/blog/

I tell you these are HIS words and his honesty, far different from the little nuggets which are spinned into fact by his critics.

I was in a serious car crash yesterday and its made me look at life differently. I like his attitude in his latest entry. Why settle for less? Why not push yourself for more? Life is a precious gift and we all should aim to succeed to our best abilites, not to stand quietly in the background why life passes you by without a second thought for who you are.

I am glad you like him and glad he has inspired you but that blog entry has no personality in it at all, no humour no thought of anyone else but himself and his will to win. Thats fine if you like that sort of thing but doesnt tell me anything about him that hadnt already been said in the papers eg. about the accident he had.

Some paragraphs would help too, its basically a monologue of 'I want to win' 'I want to win', oh and 'Nat' does too.

I read it, as requested, but it doesnt make me change my mind about him, he is dull man writing a dull blog, bringing his dullness onto the dance floor every week.

As I said you like him, great, vote for him, fine, but I wont be doing so.

I couldn't read it - grey on black is not a good look!

Ive clearly been reading something entirely different. I guess if someone is determined to not like him, they wont change their mind.

I like him but I also like other couples. However I think people made snap judgements about this man which were unfair. I think he's very honest and I like that, unlike people going down the 'journey' route which bores me endlessly. But then, I watch ot for the dancing, not for the personalities.

I have to say I don't think that blog's revealed anything about his mindset that interviews on SCD and ITT haven't covered. He's loving dancing, he wants to push himself, he's having a good time with Natalie. None of that's new.

Nothing wrong with the lad at all, but he's not got the natural personality for this kind of telly and doesn't know how to bring the audience to him. He should take lessons from Bruce

I'm fairly neutral on Ricky. I don't feel any differently after reading that entry. It's great if people love them and want to vote for them. He just doesn't entertain me enough.

Yeah, this.

I want to like him. I do! He's a very good dancer but I just can't warm to him, and a poorly written blog isn't going to change that, to be honest.

Having said that, I do think he deserves to do well in the competition as he's clearly a very able dancer.

The only person on the show who can dance and people on this site want him OFF

Its no wonder the show is going down the toilet.

I don't think that's fair - either to the other contestants or to other people's opinion. If you like him, fair enough - and he certainly is a very good dancer - but personally I find him dull to watch and his partner overbearing. I have no problem at all with him being there - after all, my opinion and the public's opinion rarely match!

I don't actively dislike him and I certainly don't want him off the show as yet. He's a good dancer. But I don't find him an interesting personality and I have to say, struggling through that very tedious and humourless blog entry, he comes over as rather self-absorbed. To me, at least.
Commiserations re your accident OP by the way.

I don't dislike him but the blog isn't something the average 14 year-old isn't writing. And a sense of humour he has not!

Not sure where you get the idea that Ricky is the only decent mover out there.

Jade, Ali, Zoe, Laila, Natalie, Tuffers, Chris have all demonstrated they can dance too.

And what evidence do you have that the show is going down the toilet? Or is that merely a subjective stance?

No one can force themselves to like a contestant. It's just the way it is. I respect that you enjoy Ricky W, but I enjoy some of the others more.

I think his main problem is that he's quite nice, if a bit dull, and the show isn't storylining him out of it - the same with Zoe (who is a bit less nice, and a bit less dull). They've pulled out some awful storyline guff to promote people who were quite nice and a bit dull before (Alesha's "becoming a lady" nonsense, or any time they sent anybody to an acting coach) but for him they're not bothering - in fact the show is all but telling us he's the Austin - a strong starter who will fall down at the end.

Compare this to Ali who has nabbed herself a romance, Laila who has more storylines than she knows what to do with, Jade who has her "softening up" journey and that luminous cack she puts all over her face, Ricky G with his "clown who wants to be taken seriously" bobbins, Jo's learning that learning to love herself is the greatest love of all, and the crowd-pleasing charm of Phil and Chris, and now Craig's "I wanna go on holidays to Blackpool" gubbins and he looks a bit like a spare part, supported by those people who drone on all "this is a dance competition with entertainment elements you know".

Add in that his partner is basically an anonymous (if very talented) slab who chose the worst possible line to introduce herself (Hi! I want a 10 week 1 please) and who has from that point had a personality I don't even think she has projected onto her, and the tendency of quite a few people (*cover your ears if you want to avoid race wank, I'm not accusing any individual here of this, but I am just saying*) to read cockiness and arrogance into any young, handsome, well-built black male whether it's there or not and he's always going to struggle a little bit.

Dancing ability isn't what only counts when you have a programme on 6 days out of 7 for 14 weeks!

I have to own up and say I'd never heard of him before SCD. From what I have seen he is one of the few celebs who is showing an ability to dance, and if he doesn't make it to the final I'll be amazed. What is wrong with having a determination to do well each week, and voicing that desire on camera ? And Natalie Lowe is going to want to prove herself as a new girl, and very glad probably that she's got someone like Ricky to do that with. No point in not giving it 100%, and their V.waltz was one of the best performances, along with Jade's. Too many folks hung up about personality in my opinion, instead of being impressed with dancing ability, which is really what counts !

Ricky W is boring.

He doesn't even have "luminous cack" to help him out. (Thanks, monkseal-genius.)
Without that or a spray-tan disaster what is there?

I think both are equally important and without one, you cannot fulfill the other.

I find Ricky W uncharismatic and dull which means his dancing never comes to life for me, no matter how technically proficient it is.

I have no problem with Ricky being hungry for the winning title and I am glad he doesnt hold back his desire in the blog. What irks me is the humble, modest act he turns on for the live shows; it is insincere and it shows.

I'd rather see a Donny Osmond on the floor as well as off it

PS: Anyone else notice his repeated choice of the words "drilling" and "Natalie" in the same sentence

Ah well, you cant please everyone. I cant see the insincerity in the man but whatever. He can dance, he wants to win and he's honest about it. It makes a change for me.

This is the best summing up of the series that I've read so far.

Kudos.

I had never heard of Ricky W before scd, but I find it hard to see what people find so dis-likeable about the guy. He's good looking, has a great body (if ITT tonight is anything to judge by) and is a very hard worker. So, he can't write world-shattering amusing blogs, but so what? Lots of people can hardly write a grammatical, let alone amusing, sentence - that doesn't necessarily make them dullards!
