Mariah was successful in the 90s in the uk but she has not really had any massive hits in the UK for about 11 years

Her new songs are as good as the old days, and she NEVER promotes over here!

Because of her "diva" reputation. The british tabloids have been the worst in the world when it comes to making up stories about her diva antics (see the story about refuses to exit her car without a carpet at 3AM LOL). Plus the british public are amongst the worst at believing what they read. We Belong Together reached number 2 I think. Touch My Body did quite well too.
I love her, she's my favourite artist, she can sing amazingly, write and produce, and her lyrics are always so eloquent and touching. Like the lyrics in Languishing, it's like a poem. I actually sometimes just read her lyrics without the song playing lol. Sad I know.

Plus the constant shift in her intended audience confuses people. One minute she's trying to be contemporary and the next she's doing it old school. I love it, but it's hard for people to catch onto that.

I think it's due to a lack of promotion. Just because she is Mariah Carey doesn't mean she will be a success without promotion. I mean she performed Touch My Body on The X Factor didn't she and that went to #5?! She can be succcessful here.

WBT and TMB were both massive hits for her, it's not the music it's the lack of promotion. Whenever she is in the UK she has a hit, the press aren't so harsh and the public warm to her but the moment she leaves the press turn on her etc

Personally I find her music these days really insipid.

she has a big voice and deserves big songs, with powerful melodies to showcase her talent rather than weak R & B ballads. I see people like Ciara, Beyonce and Christina Aguellera taking all the good R & B songs, and Mariah scrapping the barrell somewhat.

Beyonce always has powerful songs, she doesnt do much promotion over here... its the songs that count...

She performed I Stay In Love on the X Factor last year and that still bombed.

The press are awful, it's shocking the amount of rubbish they make up about her, and even more worringly at how people choose to believe that she demanded a candle lit red carpet for a 3am arrival. They choose to believe this, eventhough they can NEVER find anything diva-ish in her interviews.

She's my favourite too; vocals, writing, producing. Also, I don't think people realise that she actually writes and produces ALL of her songs; and by writing, she actually does the melody and lyrics. Such a shame.

It fels so awkward for me when Simon said last year after she performed Hero on XFactor - "I don't know how many of you know, but she actually wrote that song". All her fans know that she does. But if you're not a fan, you just think she's a manufactured artist.

Beaten to #1 by only 392 copies
I just want her to have a UK #1 which is her own composition I'm kinda hoping IWKWLI doesn't go to #1

7 top ten hits in the last ten years, last one, number 5 in 2008.
So, yes, no number ones, but still relativly succesfull.

For me it's her songs that I don't think are as good as they were in her early career. I absolutely love her first 4 albums. But all her albums since then I only really like a handful of songs from. I think she has an amazing voice, although I don't think it's as good as it was, sadly. I've always loved the tone and quality of her voice, compared to a lot of her fellow "divas" like Whitney (too whiny and nasally) and Celine (too screechy and yodelly), but that's my personal taste.

I just wish she'd go back to writing beautiful songs with strong melodies and not the bland r'n'b stuff she's been doing for the past 10 or so years, that just sound so dull and like a million other artists.

TEOM is the only album I really like of hers in the past decade, but it still doesn't compare to Emotions or Music Box or Mariah Carey to me, or her wonderful live Unplugged album.

One of my all-time favourite Mariah songs is All I Ever Wanted:

This is Mariah at her best, imo. Amazing, powerful and emotional performance, beautiful haunting melody.

I reckon it's the songs and total shift in image, so many people I know almost cherish the "old Mariah". Even when she changed with Butterfly, she kept the stuff that made her famous.

Now it's a bit of a shambles...

She changed her style too much and it's far too urban now.
