I've just gotten a new tv - a Sony 40w5500 - and since last weekend have been using the vision box connected via hdmi. I've noticed an increasiing number of times when the sound vanishes, or goes and comes back and goes again.

I've tried watching the tv without using the vision box, and cant replicate the problem, so am reasonably sure the issue is between the box and the tv.

Anyone else come across anything similar or have any thoughts?

cheers in advance!

Happened a couple of times with my Panasonic TH-P42V10B. I just change the channel and then change back again to the one I was watching. I think it's just a niggle - a bit annoying but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Cheers. I think its happening to often for me to ignore it, and if you're watching a download its harder to flip about. At least I'm not alone!

I'll zip over to the BT forums later and have a hunt around to see if this is quite common.

cheers

I have a Sony too - have had this problem for ages. It would randomly happen but cleared after a couple of mins - i find quickly putting the tv on standby, then back on fixes it (I assume the HDMI connection must restart).

I have exactly the same problem with the same tv which I just got at the weekend and got an HDMI cable yesterday, so far today its been fine.

If you find out what the issue is let me know!

Over on the BT forums, looks like lots of other people have the same problem...theres a suggestion that changing the output to 720 may make the problem go away, but no proof.

When is the new Vision box due?

cheers

This has been a problem with the hdmi connection since day one of the v-box.

I have a philips TV and you can't use 1080i for any length of time before the sounds bails.

The suggestion mgf mentioned is absolutely correct - switch to 720p and the sound will return and stay.

However the hdmi handshaking on the v-box is also rubbish so don't be surprised to get messages along the lines that hdmi handshaking has failed etc.

Quirks of the system, always hoped they would eventually fix them but i suspect this late in the game development has moved to v-box 2...

For a recording youv'e made from freeview then not really.
On a hd download maybe but as there isn't that much to choose from that may not be a problem.

There are people who think that the upscaling on the v-box is superior to the upscaling on your TV - This depends on your TV.

My Tv has MUCH better upscalling - If i watch a programme live switch between the tv channel and the v-box then the TV channel is much cleaner. Same if i play back a recording.

Don't forget the HD on the v-box still has compression on it.
It is the like sky hd - it is higher definition than freeview but it is lower than an uncompressed blue ray.

I had the same problem with a Denon 1910,again hdmi connection. When you changed the input over you got a picture but no audio.
Had to turn the Vision box off and on till you got audio, once working it stayed, no problems. A right pain.
Since changing to a Yamaha RX-V765 no issues at all, I can switch inputs on the Yamaha, Vision Box, Blu Ray and it all works first time and stays working.
Welcome to the wonderfull world of HDMI hand shake.
PS. The TV is a Panasonic TX-P42X10B, if you have issues with HDMI connections turn off the Viera Link, according to the gent i spoke to at Panasonic that can cause issues.
