The Problem with John and Edward
The major problem with these two young lads is that people are laughing AT them, not with them and that is sad. All those voting for them just for a laugh are fuelling these sad disallousional pair that they are brilliant.
So many so called fan's of John & Edward have chastised those who dislike them as evil, well at least the evil one's are'nt picking up the phone on a Saturday & Sunday night just to get their kicks. I think the J & E so called fan's need to sit back and realise that as the weeks go on and these two are kept in just for some peoples amusement, other acts, who do have real talent will fall by the wayside. Once the show is over and J & E have got down to the last 3, these young kids will seriously be thinking 'hey, we really have a chance here', yet the reality is, they have no chance, and once they bring out a token album, those voting for them would'nt be seen dead buying it, so who are the evil ones? |

Of course they have a chance! I would put money on them doing a season or two at Butlins!

I agree they have little chance of a singing career.
But I have an idea they might have a presenting career, or some kind of Saturday night show like Ant and Decs where they could occasionally do one of their hilarious fun filled performances. The more exposure they get on X Factor, the better it will be to give them a chance to do something in the entertainment industry. |

i actually think they're in on the joke
watch their performance from saturday back including the vt. they know they can't sing and are being voted in to annoy simon and cheryl if they actually thought they were really good, they would have tried a lot harder to sing well in that performance. they know they're rubbish singers, but they're also pushing their luck to see how far they can go. and why the hell not? it's working so far |

"It's like telling David Beckham he can't play football"...
With statements like that, I think it's obvious they're not taking themselves too seriously. And I think it's fantastic. Certainly makes a change from all the angsty overwrought power-balladeering lip-quivering "oh my god this means so much to me" nonsense that usually prevails. |

After the way they passed they did the cheesy locket exchange at the end of their Britney cover, it's blindingly obvious that they realise they aren't great and aren't taking themselves too seriously.
They don't seem put off by Simon's criticisms, seem to be taking the booing on the chin, and just seem to be having fun. They make me laugh.

As far as I know, I'm laughing with them. Come on, there's two of them, they must know that each other can't sing, therefore, they know that they can't. They're not stupid. They're in on it.

It may be that you have fallen into the trap that you described in that you are possibly undermisestimating (if its good enough for SC) Jedward.
I doubt that they have any illusions about their chances - they are simply using as it an opportunity to promote themselves for the future. I would not be surprised if they do not have some sort of plan mapped out. They have already said that they know they are not great singers. But, they will know they have potential on TV and are part of the way there in building up a profile and fanbase. |

I don't like them being there and maybe taking a spot from real talent but people are voting for them for whatever reason so let them enjoy their time in the spotlight. Maybe they'll get novelty work after.
Soon enough they'll be down the pub boring everybody with how great they were. |

I think they are well aware of their crapness, just listen to their interviews, they are in on the joke and that makes them even better.

If they could sing mildly well, it might work. Unfortunately, they sound atrocious. They've gto a career in TV presenting, though, without a doubt. Quote:

Actually - watching their reactions to the judges last Saturday - one of them seems to take it a lot harder than the other. Whenever a negative remark was given, one of them just laughed, but the other looked really hurt by it. They might be twins, but I don't think they're totally identical.
Except in their looks, which is why I just call them "one" and "the other," because I have no idea which is which!! |

Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head. I recall one of them saying they could be the next Ant & Dec so they're definitely looking far into the future and what could possibly come out of the X factor.
I personally tune into X-Factor awaiting the mauling they are going to give the chosen song

I did read in an article by Dermot that some of it's bravado, and they're self-conscious about their singing and trying to get better (awww).
Other than that they appear to be taking it in good humour and like they say, just having fun. |

I used to hate them - was in the biggest hate group on Facebook (from before Week 1 though when it was still just the odd nasty remark, not all these photoshopped pics) - but this week I've done a 180. I left their hate group and joined their fanpage. Watch their VT and then tell me they're not a total pisstake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8hxN9HWZ_M Watch how they laugh when Simon tells them they are rubbish. They know they're crap, they don't care, they know they're also liked. |

Of course they're in on the joke!
These guys are currently enrolled as students at a very expensive school in Dublin. It specialises in prepping students for the 'Leaving Cert' (Irish equivalent of A-levels), with fees of about €6,000 per annum (each!). They must have been seriously focused on exam results (up to now, at least!) for their parents to fork out that kind of money in fees. I would love to see the texts they must be getting from their school mates (who, I'm sure, are also in on the joke)! ![]() They are also dedicated athletes, members of both local and regional clubs. They are half of a 4-member team that won this year's Leinster Schools Cross-Country Championship back in February. John seems to be a sprinter, while Edward prefers long distance (cross-country, 1,500m., 3,000m., etc.). A nice detail from their recent athletics achievements: whether they do very well or end up further down the field, they are usually placed one after the other. Clearly, everything is treated as a joint effort. I would imagine they entered X Factor during the Summer vacation, not expecting to stay very long. Now that they've come this far, they have probably agreed with their parents and the school to put everything else on hold and enjoy the X Factor ride for as long as it lasts. They strike me as being focused, clever, ambitious, without taking themselves too seriously. Obviously, they're fond of a good laugh. All the better if they get a lot of other people to laugh along with them!

to think that they're not in on the joke is a bit naive if you ask me. ![]() The one who appears to take offence is John He said, of the Britney performance:"What happened was in the middle of it my microphone came off cuz E'wad boxed me in the face - I know I had to get on with it but..." Hahahaha.... <3 I say appears to take offence because I think he's acting. Like the straight face he pulls when he says "It's like telling David Beckham he can't play football" I suspect, however, that he is the twin that everyone notes is slightly better at performing than the other one so maybe it is genuine offence. I don't think it is though, he doesn't argue with the judges and they're quite gobby

And I feel so much better for it. I'm really looking forward to X Factor more than I was the past two weeks and it really feels like the week is dragging. In addition, I actually think they are two genuinely nice, light-hearted lads which makes a nice change from "This is my last chance", "I'm doing this for my dead grandmother", "This is my dream, I just don't want it to end"... that is not to say I don't expect to hear the twins saying these things, the difference will be the sarcasm. I love them. |
