RIP Liam Maher, front man of Flowered Up
aged just 41, just seen this on NME website, sad stuff, good baggy dance music. Anyone know what happened, seems no details so far. RIP.

Shame, that was no age for him to pass away. Dont know any details either I'm afraid.
I remember Flowered Up - around the same time as Candy Flip weren't they? |

Bit unfair to mention them in the same breath as Candy Flip. Flowered Up weren't around for long, but managed some of the greatest singles of the early 1990s, Its On, Phobia, Weekender, as well as some of the most chaotic, frenetic and downright life affirming live shows, as anyone who was at the gigs at Shoreditch Town Hall, Marquee, ULU and The Venue will testify. They tried to make a comeback, and played a few dates about 4 years ago, but it didn't really work out. Sad to hear of Liam Maher's passing. Hardly suprising given what I've heard about his drug problems, but kind of tragic. Flowered Up were fueled by drugs, most of the songs were about drugs - their positive and negative aspects - but while without them Flowered Up would never have got off the ground, they made damn sure the band could never live up to its huge potential.
Thanks for the memories Liam, RIP. |
