Well what can I say about last night? Firstly thank you to all of you who came out and supported me. It was eventful! I was so nervous and felt sick beforehand. I found it very difficult being a seated venue I love standing crowds it creates a better atmosphere! I banged my head backstage after ‘Knockdown’ and have strained my neck!!! All that aside it was a good first show! The crowd were very welcoming and I had fun. I’m on my way to Reading hoping that the pain in my neck will ease up before stage time xxx

Two hours, twenty minutes and two support acts down the line from the 7pm start time shown on the tickets, the red curtains finally parted – revealing a slender, sparkly showgirl perched on a swing, her miniscule costume accessorised by an equally tiny top hat, some long black gloves and a cane. This was the opening night of The Alesha Show: an eighteen-date UK tour that will end in Brighton in a month's time, during which Alesha will also continue to fulfil her weekly judging duties on BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing.

It can't have been easy to weather the storm of controversy that greeted Alesha's appointment to the Strictly panel, and perhaps we saw a faint trace of lingering insecurity in her stage performance last night. We were constantly urged to stand up, dance around, wave our hands and sing along, in a manner that sometimes verged on the downright bossy, and there was a certain edge behind all that well-intentioned eagerness to please. Perhaps she'll loosen up as the tour goes on, giving her audience the space to show a little more spontaneity of their own.

That aside, this was an impeccably well-drilled show, which gave its star ample opportunity to strut her stuff, and remind us just why she was voted the winner of Strictly in 2007. But although Alesha is undoubtedly a well-trained and disciplined dancer, again it would also have been good to see her breaking step, cutting loose, and surrendering to the rhythm.

As for the music – for after all, this was a concert rather than a dancing display – the accent was firmly on pop, with most of the songs being drawn from the current album. The new single (To Love Again, co-composed with Gary Barlow) got an early outing, before Don't Ever Let Me Go got everyone up dancing. Breathe Again was spoiled by too many of those bossy instructions, leaving little room for Alesha to channel the emotion of the song – whereas the more urban-tinged material towards the end of the set played to her strengths as a singer, while reminding us of her connections with the UK garage scene.

The biggest song – and the best routine – was saved for the encore: a spirited romp through The Boy Does Nothing, which closed the show after a meagre 67 minutes. It had been an evening of candy-floss entertainment: sweet and fun and fluffy, but offering little in the way of lasting nourishment.

STRICTLY judge Alesha Dixon scored a ten out of ten for her stunning appearance on the first night of her UK tour.

Unsurprisingly, Alesha's dancing was a core part of the show and she thrilled fans with some complex routines, including one with a top hat and cane.

The Daily Mail:
"Alesha, 31, has endured a torrid few weeks after taking over from Arlene Phillips as a judge on the hit BBC show. Critics attacked the move, claiming the 2007 winner was not qualified to comment on amateur performances. She was also derided for being too nice during her first few appearances"
In other news, one of their "journalists" claims that she's the victim of an "orchestrated campaign" on the internet.

I'd use a rolling eyes smiley, but I can't find one big enough.

I hope the BBC/license payer is on a cut of the profits, After all, they/we've bankrolled this new career for her!

I was going to say; "you really have it in for her, don't you?" but then I saw your screen name. Besides, I was under the impression that this tour was booked before she got offered the job.

Seriously, the name's a coincidence; do you think I'd be so silly?! And yes the tour was booked before she was confirmed for SCD (just like Arlene was booked for next year's SCD tour before she was taken off this series of SCD!) but the 'revival' in her career has been because of her initial SCD appearance and then the considerable publicity engendered by various other BBC slots.

But, look, it was meant tongue-in-cheek, I've no axe to grind against her!

Ah ok, fair dos. My apologies. Look, I'm no massive Alesha fan but she gets a lot of stick on the forums, some of it unfair (not saying it's from you btw!). Agreed, her career has taken a massive boost. She's been splashed all over the papers and as they say, all publicity is good publicity.

Did the show only last 67mins? and is that usual these days? When I was playing in a band we never did less than 2 hours, more often closer to 3hrs...

PS: No agenda, just an aged musician's interest

Depends on the act. We went to see Beyonce and she was an hour late on stage and was on for about the same length of time as Alesha. I was dragged to a Bruce Springsteen concert and it lasted just under three hours...

3hrs of Bruce Springsteen, eh?

Was there some sort of campaign medal awarded? and how have you dealt with the trauma since?

To be fair, some of the solo stuff with acoustic guitar would actually suit it quite well. My eardrums still haven't recovered from the full band experience though....it'd blow Bruce's toupe off.

I dare say it would be interesting Arlene's boy but so would being run over by a bus...

Based on my experience I'd say an 60-90 minutes for the main act is about par for the course, unless they are are on twice with an interval in between.

Shows in football stadiums etc., are a bit different I think to theatres.

The review in the local paper says the whole show is about 3˝ hours long with the support acts.

The big acts, especially the oldies, do longer. Stones, Dylan, U2 etc all do about 2 hours (I'm showing my age). But then you pay more and they have serious back catalogues to fill the time. I'd be pushed to name more than one Alesha hit. But so long as the punters have a good time, and enjoy it - and it looks like they did - we can't knock it. [but these youngsters have no stamina!]

I've never in my LIFE been to a concert that's less than 1 hour 40 minutes, and that was a Christina concert. Christina does short (I consider 1 hour 40 minutes short) shows because of the vocal power she uses up during it.

Beyonce must have been ill the time you saw her, or she had to cut an hour and more out of her show because she was late on. I've seen Destiny's Child and Beyonce four times now and they've never put on a show that's less than 2 hours 30 mins. When I waent to see Kylie last year she was on for almost 3 hours.

Yes if you get an hour with the modern acts you are doing well as they all tour with a support cast to 'fill' the evening out.

That's not true at all. I've NEVER known a "modern act" be on stage for 'barely an hour' except for Alesha. I go to concerts on a monthly basis and Alesha is by far, probably by half an hour, the shortest I've ever attended. That's a massive generalisation that IMO doesn't hold water.

For example: The tour audios I have of Beyonce and Kylie are 1 hour 55 minutes and two hours twenty minutes a piece, and they are incomplete, not including intros, set changes, and dance breakdowns! Kylie didn't even have a tour act, and both Kylie and Beyonce's concert sections were longer than Alesha's hour long delay, woeful support acts, and then 30 minute setup time, plus Alesha's concert, combined.
