According to the DS article, she has bagged herself Clive Davis (who helped Whitney and Leona break the US) to help her career take off in America.

I think she could potentially be huge with the right song choices. I think Good Night Good Morning would be a good debut single for the US (since it has Ne-Yo) but Bad Boys seems to Europop for America but then again that stuff is huge over there right now.

Fab! Brillant news!

Good luck to her, she deserves it. She's got a great album, and a great team behind her, so I can definitely see it happening for her. Fingers crossed!

She's not distinctive enough IMO. Singers like her are ten-a-penny in the US.

Well, Bad Boys would also be a good choice for a single here since it features Flo Rida, who is very popular in the states. I think it's a very current and radio-friendly song. Whatever they choose, I think she has a good chance of making it big here as well.

I agree with FleetSeb.

Well, she was always going to go over to The States next year as she signed a record deal with Epic US. She's under the same A&R as Rihanna.
I'd take the Clive Davis story with a pinch of salt. I doubt that he's really involved with artist development/management anymore. He was probably checking out her album to see if it were any competition to Whitney's comeback album

will Clive really help her though? she is signed to Epic I believe so why would Clive have any involvement?

How appropriate that the man behind her will be the same man who supported Milli Vanilli!

She'll be with the same A&R as Shakira, Beyonce etc.

Rihanna is with Island Def Jam (part of Universal).

Alexandra is signed to Epic, part of Sony Label Group (which also includes Columbia Records).

I don't think Clive will be involved. It would be a great boost to be his "special new artist" at the Grammy party but his role these days is unclear. It was reported that he was being given a big budget to build an A&R team whereby he would focus on "starmaking" and take him away from his weaknesses (he's a traditional record man, he doesn't like selling ringtones... Sony need to sell ringtones!) But nothing seems to have been mentioned since. And it wouldn't be that surprising if he announces his retirement at his party in January now that Whitney's album has been released and been a hit.

Apparently, he's the creative director of Sony Music Entertainment and Alex has 2 seperate deals within that institution. She's signed to Syco here in the UK and Epic in the US.

She can't debut there with good night good morning.. seriously she needs to release a solo single there first!

She said on Radio 1 on that she has the same A&R people as Rihanna which is why she was able to meet her in London. Maybe she meant that the people on her A&R know/are friends with Rihanna and that's why she was able to meet her.

She's got to give it a go though hasn't she? Better to have tried and failed and all that.

There are far worse female solo singers in her niche doing very well in the US at the moment, the most famous of which being Rihanna.

Good luck to her, but I don't think she will make any big impression unless "the British X Factor winner/new Leona" tagline manages to open plenty of doors. Vocally she just isn't the full shilling IMO, she has a limited range with a husky, sonorous voice which breaks into a weak 'falsetto'. It doesn't help either that they've made her look dim on her album cover, and currently she her hair in a style which makes her look like an afghan hound.

It's a very grand title, but it's just to keep him sweet. He doesn't have a role across the company, he just keeps working on the artists he signed and championed (like Whitney).

It wouldn't be the biggest surprise if he announces his retirement in January now that Whitney's comeback has been a success.

I think it will be "Bad Boys", then another uptempo like "Broken Heels" or "All Night Long" possibly followed by "The Silence".

In the UK, "The Silence" could be a second single but with album sales maybe a little bit light, they might go for a safer option like one of the uptempos that is more likely to get radio airplay. The alternative is that they might figure a ballad could sell the album.

She's worked with some of the same producers, certainly. There was something that said Jay-Z was an Executive Producer on the album but I think I read that was false. If someone has the physical album can the confirm who are the Exec Producers/ A&R?

Well, I wish her luck, but I guess I have my doubts.

She can sing and put on a performance, no doubt about it. I am just not sure if she will hit the big time over there.

I hope I am wrong because a British success story in the US is always nice as far as I am concerned.

So was Alex the real reason that Clive came to the show then? To give her the once over.

Of course she is more talented than Rihanna, but she's never going to be as succseful as her. Rihanna got there much earlier than Alex and the X Factor star is a little behind the times. That niche is well over-subscribed at the moment.
