Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession and may now face a one-year prison sentence.

The Grammy-winning rapper had been charged with criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon. In April, he entered a plea of not guilty to the charges, which stem from a police search of his tour bus in New York in 2007 and the discovery of a handgun.

He later challenged the use of DNA evidence that the prosecution planned to link the star to the firearm, claiming that it belonged to his manager.

The 27-year-old will remain free on bail while he awaits his sentencing in February, The AP reports.

Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, is also scheduled to appear in an Arizona courtroom for a forthcoming separate trial for a January 2008 arrest on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.

more great role models then.... it really is unbelievable at a time when knife crime and gun crime are rife, that a man who is known all over the world, is carrying a gun. surely he must know that there are morons everywhere who think this is the way to behave and copy people like him, trying to emulate the 'gangsta culture'. its just ridiculous. what does he need a gun for!?

I thought Americans were allowed to carry guns as it’s in their constitution that every man has the right to carry arms. So what did he do wrong by carrying one?.

I don't think just anyone can walk around with a gun as they see fit. It's restricted with regards travelling, previous misdemeanours, etc.

Note this is criminal possession rather than just possession, suggesting he is ineligible.
