Toshiba 42WLT66 Screen Problem
Recently our Tosh LCD had developed a strange artifact on the screen. We view all our programmes via a Sky HD box.
Exactly at the vertical centre of the screen a sort of blurred line has appeared. It's as if the screen is split in two. Obviously it is more noticable on plain background material. It is definetely there as the OH has also witnessed it! Anyway, the panel is still under warranty. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this on their Tosh equipment. |

So...either no-one else has had this problem...or no-one else has a 42WLT66?

Hi battlezone
Not directly related I know but I'd a 40xf355 6 months out of warranty when it recently started to display a 3" band down side of screen. Toshiba were brilliant (apparently this was a common fault with that model) and gave me a number whereby Dixons collected the set and I got to pick a new model (went for a Sharp LED). Might be worth giving their technical support a call. |

A centred vertical line is apparently a common problem with this model.
Google being useful in situations like this. I think you might get a new TV out of it. |

Thanks for that pointer. I didn't realise it was so common a fault.
The panel is just under 3 years old. The warranty is with DomGen. They are sending someone out next week to collect it. The repair shop seem to think they can replace the screen from the conversation I had with them. However I phoned Tosh and they said they had never heard of this problem with this model! But they did say DomGen were quite good and I should expect to be offered a new panel. I wait with baited breath! I shall post again in the near future... |

I had problems with my 37WLT66, which included the blurred patch mid screen as well as image retention whenever anything was paused for even a short time. I didn't have any warranty on it, and basically resigned myself to the fact that it was game over - in fact, I even went out and bought a Panasonic 46" Plasma to replace it.
Shortly after buying the new TV, and consigning the old one to the bedroom, I had a problem with my laptop screen, which was just out of warranty. Whilst speaking to Toshiba about the laptop (which was collected, repaired and returned within the week I must add), and having mentioned the TV too, the CS person suggested that I call the TV division and see if they could help (despite the TV being three years old, and out of warranty). When I spoke to them, I was told that they did not have any panels available (nor would they have any becoming available) to repair my TV, and as they were obliged to be able to supply spares for a minimum five years after manufacture, they were going to send out a brand new TV as a free replacement; a few days later, a specialist courier delivered a brand new, boxed TV, and took the old one away. They may just be stalling because you have a paid for insurance on the TV, so that D&G end up footing the bill for the replacement instead of them. Either way, I reckon you'll come out of it fine - D&G were really good when I dealt with them years back. |

It depends who much the panel is, if it's too much D&G will write the set off - and probably supply a new set as a replacement. If this does happen, just as with a written-off carf, you lose the rest of your insurance cover.
Reading around the net the warranty doesn't seem to be an issue with Tosh as they seem to be replacing the panel anyway. Or is it that only the happy punters are posting!? |

Well, the panel was removed from my house this morning and this afternoon a brand new 46XV635DB has been approved as a replacement (I had to contribute £141.00).

I bought the 42WLT66 in Jan 2007 and have the same vertical line problem....
I called up Toshiba but they said it was out of warranty so I have to call a specialised repair centre who would charge ![]() After reading comments from people who managed to get a replacement set is there anything I can do ? I appreciate the TV is 4 years old but you still don't expect this to happen on an item that originally cost me £1200 and Id rather buy a new TV then pay for this one to be repaired but if I can get a replacement FOC all the better.... |

I would try and get a replacement. Maybe write to Toshiba head office and point out it's a known fault and the TV should have been recalled several years ago and the screen replaced. Worth a go at least. I wouldn't email/phone, too easy for them to ignore that. Polite but firm is the key. |
