The A-ha appreciation thread
So they annouced they are to quit music next year,
They are very underated ,inspired Coldplay and I reckon Morten Harket has one of the best voice ranges in the buisness, 25 years since Take on me Back in 1985,They have released some outstanding Albums in that time so come guys lets say bye to one of music's most creative Bands. Thankyou guys. Your thoughts please? |

What a great thread
![]() ![]() ![]() Have been a fan since 1985. My favourite album of theirs is Scoundrel Days (just so timeless). I was heart-broken when they announced their split, but came to realise 'there's never a forever thing' Some clips of my favourite A-Ha songs; Minor Earth, Major Sky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98W0aHuKrZE Celice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chn1OcbgLyk |

![]() So sad when i heard they'd decided to retire. I was under the impression that they had signed to release at least one more album after FOTM?![]() I'll never tire of listening to their back catalogue of music just a little sad that I'll never experience the anticipitation of another a-ha album. |

The only song I really like from FOTM is Riding The Crest. Such a joyful track. They should really release this.

My best ever gig I went to was at Dock Rock in 2006. The hottest day of the year, queueing from 9am and making friends with fellow fans. Managed to get to the front row and thought I was in heaven. Took some fantabulous pictures and videos. A beautiful day indeed. Second best was the Tiscali secret gig in Shoreditch. I was within touching distance of molesting Magnes' arse LOL! |

Saw the boys in action at the MEN Arena last night and enjoyed it immensely. They were on top form and the 2 hours passed in a flash. Foot Of The Mountain played live has the same epicness (is that a word?) that their earlier classics have. It slots in wonderfully into their catalogue imo. The outstanding parts for me were the big ballads....Stay On These Roads followed straight on by Manhatten Skyline and Hunting......Shadowside is a more than worthy addition to the ranks. I was pleased they played Analogue but disappointed that Lifelines wasn't included although we did get Forever Not Yours with a very bizarre visual of a lizard.
![]() The guys didn't spend much time chatting which is just as well as Morten called the place Birmingham at one point! A slightly panic stricken Mags put him right. Mags did say early on that we were wrong to look at this tour as the farewell tour and that maybe they'll be back again next year......I'm not so sure if they will visit the UK on the farewell tour to be honest so I'm glad I saw them now. I don't think Pal spoke to the audience directly at all throughout the show, preferring to do what he does best. All in all a fantastic show and one I'll remember with great affection. An added bonus were the unknown (in the UK, in Norway they are this years phenomenon) support act Donkeyboy........about two thirds of the crowd were in place when they appeared and there were lots of folks just wandering around whilst they played but they ended up being very warmly applauded and deservedly so, they were absolutely superb. Great voices and wonderful catchy pop melodies. .........anyone going to the show tonight in London, if you get a chance to read this beforehand, I'd say make it there early and if they are supporting again, then enjoy!

I was gutted with the news they are to split. I expect this time it will be permanent as they have done this before and got back together.
Foot of the Mountain is a fabulous album which continues to grow on me everytime I listen to it. Other favourites include: - Stay On These Roads Touchy Analogue Shapes That Go Together You Are The One Great stuff! |

Fab gig at the O2 last night, although a-ha's brilliance served to make me sad over their impending retirement as a group.
Morten's voice was phenomenal last night and the setlist was a nice blend of the old and the newer tracks from the superb Foot Of The Mountain album. It was pleasing that the title track itself was so well received last night. Also, The Blood That Moved The Body, which never impressed me much, absolutely rocked live! |

I have had to grow up listening to these boys because of my parents. I liked a few of their songs but I was never really into them. That was until 2005 when they released "analogue" that was my A-ha tune! I know there have been better tunes such as Hunting High and Low, Sun always shine on TV and of course Take on me, all of which I like, but with their more recent albums I've come to appreciate and realise their brilliance!

Playing the lottery every week in the hope that I could win a little money to go to Brazil where they'll be playing a one off gig there this September.

I am hoping they film it at least and release a DVD!
I had kind of finally got used to the fact there would be no new stuff...but if Mags is back in board...then maybe they will produce new stuff. |

![]() Pretty rum of them to retire a few years ago, charge the earth to see their farewell tour, only to reform for the money when Morten can no longer sing the notes. |
