Does anyone know of any software that allows you to download the contacts off a mobile phone using bluetooth and export them to a VCF file (and ideally allows you to upload them again).

I don't want any "sync" software as too many times contacts get trashed, and I don't want anything tied to a single manufacturer either.

i.e. it would work very much like "Medieval Bluetooth File Transfer (OBEX FTP) for PC " but instead of handling files it would handle contacts.

This is for downloading contacts from a Windows Mobile phone (and would also be needed to download from Ericssons and Iphones) to transfer to a new model.

Obviously the devices would be authenticated!

A better way would be to find some kind of software that will convert the pim.vol file into seperate vcards and calendar entries.

Having said all that though, it is a lot easier to use sync software.

Download PPC PimBackup to make a backup first, then try syncing with outlook, making sure to tell activesync to replace items on the PC.

Ah but being Windows Mobile it doesn't want to synch with the computer

Tried PPC PimBackup so I have a local copy - just need to get them from a TynTyn II to an Iphone, but the TynTyn can't send all via Bluetooth and the stupid Iphone can't receive bugger all via Bluetooth.... (Unlike every ericsson phone I have used since 2002)

My idea of a downloader is that you

1) Can use the software for nearly every phone going
2) Don't risk a synch ****ing the contacts database (again)
3) Don't get my computer filled with other peoples contacts...
4) Make future backups without having to get the owner of the phone to do anything

Aah now this is something I went through recently transferring contacts to the new phone, but for the life of me can't remember what I did! I'm fairly certain I used outlook when activesync played nicely lol

Done it....

MOBILedit! Trial
Export the phone book to VCF
7 Zip the results
Transfer to USB Disk
Eject USB Disk

Walk Across Room
Plug USB disk into the PC with Itunes
Extract the results
Drag into Windows Address Book
Hit return 350 times to accept each contact
tell Itunes to synch with Windows Address book

- I knew there was a reason why I have stuck with Sony Ericsson....
Phone Book

Backup to M Card
Remove M Card, Insert into new phone

Restore from M Card....

Thats not the way I did it but as good a way as any I suppose! I remember having to hit enter 85 times, so I must have used Windows Address Book on it

Its terrible - I only went through the process in June.... :O
