Some Foxsat HDR questions

I think I can upgrade myself to the Freesat+ forum now that I have the beloved Humax Foxsat HDR =)))

I am a bit thick when it comes to adding the extra channels. I can't seem to find a resource (I know it must exist) that tells me all the parameters needed to find the most interesting non-Freesat channels! is there a list with instructions and frequencies etc ? please =)

There's a kind of PCMCIA slot on the front of the Foxsat, so if I get a card reader (any suggestions?) for it, will it read the Sky card so I could perhaps get Sky 3? and any other freesatfromsky channels that I don't already get.

There is an RJ45 cable too... will this work for transferring files to and from a PC? sort of like via USB?

Finally... I recorded some programmes and the dearest foxsat puts the same programmes into a folder. Very organised and brilliant. I watched one, and couldn't see how to delete it afterwards!? was greyed out with the opt+ options. On the (ebayable) Sony PVR, you clicked OK to get a menu to play, play from beginning, rename or delete. It was quite straightforward. I looked and looked but couldn't find a way to delete it.

Beautiful quality though and it's really gone beyond my expectations.

Thank you in advance =)

forgot to say...
is there a way to switch off the automatic buffering (recording of what you're watching) ? If it saves electricity and longevity of the hard drive, I'd rather turn it off because I won't lose sleep if I can't press pause while watching TV.

To delete you need to select the programme with OK and then select delete. However you cannot delete whilst a recording is in progress.

The card slot will allow you to watch channels with a working sky card. A number of people on here have C4HD working with a CAM.

RJ45 doesn't work yet, but will when the iplayer update is released.

Thanks =)
I think sky is pretty rubbish, but I'm curious if watching it through the Humax will be an improvement on quality. I just bought a new card (only freesatfromsky) so I'm annoyed at losing it. It's not even arrived in the post yet via my mum.
(strikes).

I'm thinking I could probably sell it over here...expats might find it difficult to get hold of sky boxes and cards.

Go into manual tune and either take the default action to scan all the free channels or dial in the transponders you want

A word of warning adding/moving/deleting channels in non-freesat currently deletes your freesat reservation list so make a nor of this first as you will have to renenter them. This is on the list as fixed in the coming firmware update.

After the tune you will be in non-freesat mode and will have a new menu option to switch modes

The CI slot will take a dragon cam but it only works with the old sky cards.

That depends what you mean.

If you mean that the picture itself is rubbish:
Doubtful but not totally impossible. The channels are digital so as long as you get good reception the box should see exactly the same input stream.

However the decoding part could be different if different decoders are in use. The output side could also be different if not using HDMI. If using HDMI then how the box upscales (or if it's left to the TV) is another factor.

Whether a typical human would be able to detect any such differences or not is another matter.

If you mean that the content is rubbish
Clearly changing to Freesat can only make this worse by depriving you of it

Conclusion
If it's the picture quality of Sky you don't like then in all honesty I doubt if Freesat will be any different. There just isn't that much 'wiggle room' in the technology. That's one of the main advantages of digital over analogue. It either works or doesn't for the most part.

Thank you thank you !!!

I'll wait until the new update before I try that then.

I think the issue is Scart vs HDMI.....
Far more blocky artefacts via Scart, even a super duper QED shielded gold plated RGB Scart. With cheapo scart, Sky was youtube quality.

I guess you could use an HD sky box (if you don't have to subscribe senseless amounts of money to use it) but I'll happily sell the electricity guzzling Sky box. I have more than enough with Humax =)))
