I see ITV are planning to up their HD film content which includes the showing of all the "Star Wars" movies.

Don't know what wnet wrong here, but will repeat. ITV intent on upping their HD film contnet to include running all the "Star Wars" movie series in HD.

err, ok maybe i'm missing something obvious here, but my the hdr epg doesn't show todays episode as being in hd, so can't set it to record.

The news in the middle is showing as hd though?????

No problem on my EPG - just checked and was able to set both parts to record in HD using the "record whole series" option.

It may be a regional thing. ITV Central West is showing as HD. Try selecting the ITV London channel (#977) as that is also flagged as HD

Well it looks like ITV have cracked the HD/Split event issues, apart from the abrupt end to part 1 with the HD Unavailable screen flashing up, and the second part starting to record 2 minutes of the Unavailable screen prior to the second half starting, all is looking well..

Shame the overall pituere quailty isn't much better then the DVD.

I looked at it to see what it was like and I thought the picture quality looked pretty poor. I was standing only a few feet away but it looked fuzzy to me.

I would have said that an upscaling DVD player would have produced far better results (and in the correct aspect ratio!)

Let's hope for ITV's sake that the advertisers didn't notice there were NO adverts during those 2 minutes

To me the cgi looked HD and the actors SD. A weird combination I don't think the director would have wanted!

Had another look at the picture from the recording and would have to agree with you.

Flicking about, the Freeview pic was pretty poor, the freesat sd was ok and the HD was little better. Glad I didn't sit down to watch it. As an aside: Is it worth asking ITV to show in OAR? and with 5.1?

I did try the ITV HD v. Upscaled DVD experiment.

One problem with this comparison is that the ITV HD broadcast was 16:9 and the DVD is widescreen with black bars top and bottom.

This makes it hard to do a direct comparison.

Initially I thought the DVD quality was much better, but when I used the DVD zoom to remove the black bars, it was apparent that the ITV HD picture was actually a bit better.

However, the surround sound on the DVD and lack of advertisement breaks meant we quickly switched onto the DVD to enjoy the film.

One thing to note; Episode I/II have been shown before on ITV HD, and the quality of episode II is much better than episode I

Of course exactly why ITV insist on a 16:9 broadcast is yet another issue! I watched a few minutes towards the end and got annoyed at the poor framing - which was obviously never planned for 16:9!
