Why were Jade & Ian in the bottom 2?

Yes - Jade is definitely more outgoing and a little less intense than Denise.

But what a pity that the quality that makes them such great individual achievers - their intense focus and desire to succeed - is seen to be a negative.

No doubt the British public will see it differently if Jade manages to medal in 2012.
I have no interest whatsoever in the Olympics. So as much as I hope she does well I won't be watching.

I just think that whatever you are doing in life if you have to loose you sense of humour to succeed then is it really worth it?

I feel that these 2 are underrated. People rave on about Zoe being a great dancer but I think Jade is slightly better.

I wonder why Jade was in the dance-off this week?
Because she not as well liked as Craig

I was just relieved she was there with Jo Wood and not Ricky Whittle or we could have lost her
My thoughts exactly!

I think the reasons Jade & Ian were in the dance off are -

Under the new scoring system it is harder to be safe
They danced first and the judges use the first couple as their benchmark for the others
The blackpool vote (my Mum voted for Craig and she doesn't usually vote)
She didn't bring a big fan base with her into the show, so she started from a different level of popularity
An unflattering VT clip
They also gave her a lousy VT. Anybody that hasn't watched ITT this year would just think she's a stroppy so & so.

I wonder why the producers did that?
I agree with you fancynancy. In fact, I think ITT is particularly excellent this year at giving us a chance to get to know the couples better and I wish more people watched it.

Which makes me wonder why that clip was shown - completely out of context and totally at odds with everything that we've learned about them as a couple on ITT.

Bewildering.

Jade and Ian's dance was by far my favourite of the night, she looked amazing, gave it loads, was bang on time all the way through, and it was a really fun routine to boot.

Maybe she would be if Strictly was due to take place in her home town too

I imagine many voters thought she was safe so voted for someone else. I thought she and Ian were terrific tonight. I have noticed, with the exception of Denise Lewis, the public don't seem to warm to female sports personalities in the same way as they do to the males. I have no idea why! However a lot of couples end up in the dance off at least once so no big deal. She'll be back in the running next week.

I suspect the producers thought it was too good a strop to leave out!

I think this is always a factor and the public haven't quite realised the impact of the new scoring system yet.

I don't know! I was shocked! I really like Jade and Ian, their dances are a lot more entertaining to watch than some of the others and on a shallow level, they look good together. HOW were they in the dance-off? It's a joke. The only good thing to come out of it is that Jo Wood is out of the competition; she didn't deserve to still be there with all the other more capable dancers. Even then... Craig is still there!!

My comment wasn't aimed at you, Starpuss.

The VT shown - which I assume is what you were referring to - was Ian & Jade's meltdown this week when the samba training was going really badly.

I don't doubt that ALL of the couples experience similar 'crises' - and doubtless we will see them as the weeks go by.

Just depends when the producers see fit to roll them out, I suspect.

Although I agree the clip was unfair - I am sure all the competitors have strop moments - when they are being interviewed together Jade over-emphasises how well they get on while Ian sits there looking rather po-faced

She also hugs and kisses him a lot rather than the other way around. Compare that to last year with Jodie where the touchy-feely bit was completely mutual and spontaneous. I'm not getting the same sincerity this time around.

Still for all that, I love their dancing and will be rooting for Jade as a finalist.

I think you've covered everything, except ...

Natalie Coughlin went out of Dancing with the Stars this week.

I wonder whether something about female athletes tends to make it hard for a substantial segment of the audience to warm to them.

That was a nasty shock for me as she was my firm favourite.

I think her problem was she didn't 'feel' some of her dances or have as much chemistry with her partner as some of the others.

Jade doesn't seem to have those same problems.

Gosh...sorry, I know and when I reread my post it did sound snippy I didn't mean it too. I am one of those sad people who think SCD is more important than the Olymics

I do agree that showing her strop on the VT was counter productive. I bet there were loads of moments when everything was fine and they got on great but that isn't seen as 'good' tv. I loved it when she came in waving a white rose though....she is a classy lady

Maybe it's because she was first out to dance and people forgot how she did,
as she isn't really that well known.

I wonder if they will make as much fuss as Zoe and James did.

Arrrgh! I haven't watched the show yet and have been staying away from the sub forum to try and avoid the result!

Not to you (or to me), but perhaps to some viewers she does. (Perhaps especially considering the VT?)

But there are other possibilities. Athletes tend to be competitive, have muscular bodies, and so may seem "hard" and unfeminine. Sure, Kristi Yamaguchi won DWTS, but figure skaters are petite and more like dancers.

This is the first week I haven't voted for Jade, and I must admit it was because I was complacent. I thought their Samba was really good and I presumed they were safe. I won't next week, I will vote for them again. I love Jade and Ian, even though the VT did not show Jade in a good light tonight. But it was just a hissy, doesn't make her an awful person or anything.

I thought Jade and Ian were great tonight, and yes, better than Zoe and James. I felt that Zoe and James were somewhat overmarked for a frankly underwhelming American Smooth - perhaps an attempt to save them from the same fate as last week when they were unjustly in the dance-off.

Sadly I don't think Jade and Ian have caught the public's imagination as yet. I think Jade shows talent in both Latin and Ballroom and as ever, Ian has formed a good partnership and is showcasing his partner brilliantly, but they are somewhat understated. I'm fine with that, in fact I like it, but I fear a lot of people will be seeing understatement as lack of personality, or aloofness. Still, maybe the travesty of this excellent couple being in the dance-off will inspire a more committed support.
Said all I wanted to say and more, thank you

Same reason Zoe was in it last week. Couples are more vulnerable under the new point system. They'll all be scared now. Exciting!
What is the new point system cassie? Do you mean just 15 min for the public vote?

Its just like last year, before too long someone good will go while craig stays. He is an awful dancer and I wish he would shut up about getting to Blackpool. Jade should not have been in the dance off tonight .... he should have been.
Agree with you there. Whilst Jade is not one of my favourites she is a good dancer and danced very well tonight no way should she have been in the dance off.

Craig should have been there but gets the sympathy vote and keeps banging on about blackpool but as you said Jade does not beg!!

In the past, there was a gap in the points from the judges when a couple tied. (A gap below the ones who were tied.) This year there isn't. So every tie means the poorer dancers get one more point than they would have last year.
