To me, Natalie is flying the flag for ordinary women on SCD IMO I think that Natalie looks larger on Strictly than she actually is because the other women (particularly the pro-dancers) are very slim/thin, therefore it's making Natalie look larger. It doesn't help that she's been paired with Vincent, one of the (if not THE) most petite men in the competition

I too did a double take when she said size 12 then I started wondering if it was possible due to the reasons I've outlined above? Either way she should have known better as she's left herself open to this type of speculation. Or is it possible she was trying to say 'look I'm only a size 12, I'm not as big as I look on TV!' But IMO she should have just said 'Vincent's a small man and I'm larger than the usual women he lifts so we're not going to bother' or words to that effect

It's silly to pretend the lack of lifts had nothing to do with her weight, and all about Vincent's height. If she was just the same height as she is now, but much thinner, Vincent probably would have managed.

Anyway, it's the producers who should have foreseen this, it's a bit unfair on Nat and Vincent as lifts always add wow factor and they can't ever do them.

I mentioned earlier that I thought this was just a way of saying "It isn't because of my weight that Vincent isn't going to attempt any lifts." Her way if you like of justifying the omission and protecting her partner. Or even; "I'm slimmer than I look."
As has been said, it would have been better to have said nothing, not even the absence of lifts, I doubt if many would have noticed or commented upon the lack of them.

I have no idea of the timescales involved in this programme but is it possible that when Natalie agreed to do the show and the producers decided to pair Natalie with Vincent, she was still quite thin? Or at least thinner?

I don't even know how long ago Natalie put the weight back on I remember seeing pictures of her looking very thin then what seemed like 5 minutes later she was plumper again!

Their partnership would make more sense if they were put together when Natalie was smaller. Vincent would have had no trouble lifting her then.

Apologies that I missed your comment, haven't time to look through the thread

I agree though, as the old saying goes 'If in doubt, say nowt!' All it did was draw more attention to her weight/size. I doubt the judges would have been as insensitive to bring up the lack of lifts, they would surely know why there weren't any in the dance.

It doesn't matter what size she is. Any excuse for a bitchfest on here.

Why not contribute to a "lovvie thread" instead, if you've nothing positive to say on the topic, either one way or the other.

Actually I don't agree with the last bit of your post. Even if it hadn't been previously mentioned, if Natalie and Vincent had danced a routine without lifts, the same things would still have been said. SCD viewers do associate lifts with the AS, especially given that until the final lifts are not allowed. They were damned if they did and damned if they didn't.

Ok, there may have been some comment, but things would have moved quickly on. The judges wouldn't have made a big deal of it.

And thrice damned - even unto the eternal fires of damnation itself - if a dress size happened to get mentioned in the process.

(I am referring to the current attacks on Natalie Cassidy and whether she is size 12 or not.)

"Oh yeah did you see Rossy on Strictly on Saturday say that he can get back into a 34" waist again since he's been dancing?"

Can you imagine a 12 page thread about whatever a man claims his waist or chest size to be ... and whether he is *lying* or slightly reducing the truth of his girth ....?

You're another who totally misses the point.

The discussion and comments are because Natalie Cassidy said on IT2 she was a size 12.

I didn't start this thread as a personal attack on Ms Cassidy, I asked the question and left it open. (The thread title isn't mine, my original thread was merged with a later one with that heading)

I would never have raised the subject if she hadn't first done so.

So your suggestions about un-prompted comments about J Ross aren't relevant.

No I'm afraid Ms or Mr Doghouse Riley I *totally* get the point (and YOU are the person missing the point).

So what if it was Cassidy herself who said she is currently size 12 -- so what if that is what she thinks or what she is (in some clothing ranges) able to wear.

The topic would not warrant so much debate if a man said "look at me and my new 42" chest.

It is always seen as "OK" for the media (and public) and magazines + all the trash rags to discuss AT LENGTH the size of a WOMAN'S waist / dress size / poundage (up or down) ...... but the same level of debate does NOT apply to male celebrities.

It is the people who START the debate (posting the first thread / raising the question) who keep the insidious industry going .... the industry is the industry of making women feel inferior about their body sizes and always having weight + size worries from a young age ..... and this debate about Natalie's dress size does not help -- it just adds to fears that "normal" size women already have.

Hmm..
I'd suggested you don't take message boards too seriously, with comments like that you're likely to get psychoanalysed by some on here.
Not me of course, you can say what you like.

But if you think comments on one thread of a message board, (one of thousands of threads) have any influence on keeping "an insiduous industry" going, or any industry for that matter, you're giving it far more credit than it deserves.

I doubt if "the insidious industry" of adverse comments on Bruce Forsyth on multiple threads either, will have the slightest effect.

Right here is my OPINION. Until this year Vincent has been stated in various different articles and even on the ITT show after he danced with Stephanie Beecham as being at least 5ft 7in and not only just reaching the 5ft 5 or 6 mark). Whether that was inaccurate or what I dunno, but he was measured at a Science Fitness Lab thing for the ITT feature and it put him if a remember rightly at just over 5ft 7in. I am a size 12 with curves, i.e largish boobs and bum and I go in a bit at the middle (that is my definition of curvy anyway) and I am 164cm which is just slightly over 5ft 4in. The two times I have met Vincent I have had over three inch heels on and he has had formal or dance shoes on (guessing here about 1 to 1 1/2 inches[ish]). Both times I have stood night next to him tall and he has been at least 2 inches taller than me.

The perfect height difference for ballroom (and I mean standard and not latin) between a man and a woman (I am talking perfect here) is for the lady to be around 3 inches smaller than the man (with her dance shoes on). Natalie and Vincent do not have a great height difference between them but he is slightly taller than her even with her dance shoes on.

It does not give the same effect when standard dancing or doing lifts professionally if the lady is the same height or taller than her dance partner. I can completely understand why Vincent decided not to do lifts with her on this occasion, but not for one minute do I believe he cannot lift her comfortably. Of course she is one of the heavier girls we have seem him lift (and yes if you remember back he did lift her at the beginning of the series in a group dance, when she apparently weighed at least a stone more, and he did so with ease).

Dancers generally and like Vincent and Flavia and the rest of the pros have amazing amounts of core strength and are usually very much stronger than they look.

I don't understand why people are so cruel as to make an issue over whether or not Natalie is lying or deluded about being a size 12. We all come in different shapes and sizes and I for one am glad that we do. I am sure there are alot people out there who can only feel better about themselves by putting others down and pointing out peoples "flaws"??!! and I hope that Natalie doesn't read this thread because I am sure she would be heartbroken. She is not only a "real woman" as some people like to say, she is a real person with feelings and I for one believe her when she says she is a 12. Does it really matter anyway? Would it have made people feel better if she had said I am a size 14 or 16??

You're reading too much into this.

The question has always been; "Is she or isn't she?" Personally, I've no idea, but I've yet to be convinced.

Those who think she isn't, are actually judging her size by what they see on TV, whether they then relate this to comparisons of their own figure is just them exercising their perception.

How some can interpret the doubts raised as something to do with having a "weight problem" of their own, just make me smile. Sounds like a bit of an agenda there.

As for the one who suggested that the people questioning her statement on this thread were in effect; "sustaining an insidious industry," had me laughing.

I dont believe she is size 12 I am afraid, my Wife is size 12 and looks far thinner than her. I am afraid I would not believe anything that girl says as she is so full of her own importance it's not real.

I've already posted that I don't believe she is a size 12, and also that I think she's doing a great on the show, proving that big girls can really move, a bit like that larger lady who was in DWTS a couple of series back.

But what happens when an obviously larger celeb, be it Natalie or anyone else, claims to be a relatively small dress size, it perpatuates the myth in some people's eyes that somehow size 12 or 14 is overweight. I've seen people stating that size 14 is clinically obese, which is simply ludicrous (unless the person is only 4'9" I suppose).

It would have beenfar better to simply not mention a specific size, just say "I'm fuller figured" which nobody would be arguing about.................................or would they?

Personally, I couldn't care less  Really, what possible interest can someone's dress size be to anyone else?

And before anyone comments that Natalie's dress size was evidently of enough interest to me for me to comment on it - I looked in this thread to see what on earth could be sustaining it for so long. I'm still not sure, other than a fair measure of bitchiness.

Some comment? We've got 11 pages now and the previous thread discussing Natalie's ran to 8 pages (here). If fact, very few threads on the main board about Natalie don't develop into negative discussions about her weight. Natalie is attracting almost as much negative coverage on here as Alesha did when she was announced as a judge. Trust me, there would have been a LOT of comment on here.
