But the effect it has is to make people believe size 12 is overweight (Natalie IS overweight, no matter what those who seek to defend her size 12 "claim" might say to the contrary), when in fact size 12 is pretty trim.

IMO a size 12 at Natalie's height is overweight. Just like Natalie, I'm 5'3.75" and when I'm asked my height I say 5'4"


I'm just about certain that I'd have to be overweight (not obese) to be a size 12, ie have a BMI of 25-29.9.

The dress Natalie wore last Saturday is for sale on the Dancesport web page with the waist given as 70cm, which is the waist size for an M&S size 10! She'd also fit a Jaeger 10 and a Principles 10-12.

Zoe's costumes give a waist size of 64cm, which probably equates to a 'catwalk' 12 but certainly not a high street one. Zoe would fit an M&S size 6.

Well, I don't think size 12 at a height of 5'4" is necessarily overweight. It will depend on your frame etc. BUT the problem is, everybody is labelling size 12 as overweight (yet again) because a tubby celebrity has claimed to be that size. And Natalie didn't need to say a size at all, she could simply have said "I have a fuller figure" or as the No1 lady detective might say "of a traditional build". By claiming to be a size 12, she has labelled people who are a size 12 as overweight.

But she MIGHT be a size 12, it really depends where she gets her clothes from..! I own clothes ranging from a size 6 to a size 10, but as a woman I think we'd always choose the lowest possible number wouldn't we?

Either that or cut the label out.

All this talk about dress sizes . Natalie does look the most overweight of the girls on SCD. She knows it herself and nothing wrong with it as she represents most of the women in the UK. She has lost weight since doing SCD and she's doing much better then I was expecting and good luck to her. Looking forward to her jive tonight as it looks very fast .

Jade Johnson weighs about the same as Natalie but is over 6ft and more muscular.

And of course muscle weighs more than fat.

There isn't an ounce of fat on Jade.

I'm not critical of Natalie's weight. She looks happy with herself and her personality is engaging. I just wish she hadn't referred to her size. I'm sure she made the comment without even thinking, but it really was an invitation to the malicious and sarcastic to sneer.

Like Pandora's box it might be impossible to put the lid back on this controversy - but Nat should remember that at the bottom of the box lay hope. Let's hope her detractors soon tire of discussions about her weight and concentrate on her SCD performances.

Not necessarily. I'm a size 12 to 14 (more 14 nowadays) and am 5' 6. My calculated BMI shows that I fall within the ideal weight category. To see what my BMI would be if I were shorter, but the same weight, I put my weight into the BMI calcuator with a height of 5' 4 and it only just fell within the overweight category. So I would expect a true size 12 (which is smaller than me) to fall within the ideal BMI range (if that rather convoluted logic makes sense).

But how would they fit into the grill ?

This I agree with, but I am not being malicious or sarcastic about her generally. I have said a number of times that I think she's doing really well on SCD, and that she shows that larger ladies really can dance. I just take issue with the claim that she's only a size 12 and the fact that size 12 is somehow viewed as overweight, which her claim hasn't done much to dispel!

Did I say all who doubt her veracity are malicious and sarcastic? If that's the interpretation you put on my comments perhaps you should reread my post.

Not everyone who doubts Nat has been malicious and/or sarcastic. Many who believe she's stretched the truth have said so in moderate and measured terms.

My post was directed at those who think it clever to snipe at her in an unnecessarily spiteful manner.

Give us a break, you only picked on the extremes, as people often tend to do, if your going to mention them, you should be even handed and mention the others, not attempt to qualify your remarks in a second post.

That depends entirely on the person. Even in people of the same height, differing weight distribution and body structure can give massively different shapes and sizes.

As for size 12 being pretty trim - not for me! If I were to be a size 12 I'd go back to being a tubby little bucket like I was when I was 14.

Size 14 more like! Difficult to look light on your feet when your on the large side. Shes doing her best though.
