mobiles.co.uk porting query
Doing an online search for good HTC Hero pay monthly deals this company seems to have quite a presence on the web...seemingly owned by the Carphone Warehouse.
I was just about to signup on one of their deals then noticed this... "It is not currently possible to port your existing number to Vodafone" As the Hero is not available from O2 I was keen to move to Vodaphone but want to keep my existing O2 number which I've had for 10 years. I have emailed mobiles.co.uk but just wondered if anyone had successfully ported their number to Vodaphone...seems a bit odd...anyone know why? |

My understanding is: You have to port your number to vodafone at the time of connection as it can't be done afterwards. Basically you need to have the PAC from your old supplier during the vodafone ordering process.

I see what you mean this from their website Quote:
Number Porting see what their reply is
Can I transfer my old number to my new phone? Yes, number porting is a simple procedure and available when you are changing network providers. You cannot currently port your number if you are remaining on the same network or transferring to Vodafone. If you wish to keep your number and stay on your current network you need to choose one of our Upgrade deals. |

probably because mobiles.co.uk have the same problem as phones4u, there systems can't deal with vodafone requiring the pac at the point of sale.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=952113 vodafone are the only uk network that require the PAC at point of sale, it isn't possible to port a number across afterwards. |

So in order to use my PAC I would have to go in to a Vodaphone store on the high st thereby missing out on the online deals for new contracts ![]() My current O2 contract ends on 28th Nov and if I was staying with them I can upgrade 1 month early due to me being a "Priority" customer. I presume I could just phone O2 and buy out the remainder of my contract, get my PAC and then visit a Vodaphone store and try and negotiate a good deal on a Hero and give them my PAC. If I do this do you get a temporary number until your existing no is ported across? |
