Yes, I noticed that. I was surprised when I saw it was an eight-part series, so the two compilations make it effectively a six-part series after all. Rather odd that the compilations are listed as highlights, though!

There's still a Would I Lie to You? compilation to fit in somewhere too. Maybe that'll appear over Christmas.

The Not Going Out special is mentioned too and will probably shoved in somewhere where there is a gap.

I think it is a rule that series that continue across Christmas have to be shown in a different slot than usual during Christmas week

I.e episodes 1 -5 are Fridays at 9, episode 6 Wednesday at 10.15

7.00 Celebrity Mastermind
7.30 EastEnders
8.00 Doctor Who: Waters of Mars
9.00 Gavin and Stacey (Double Bill)
10.00 BBC News and Weather
10.20 Match of the Day

BBC1 repeated a Dr Who in Saturday primetime in the summer (The Next Doctor? I forget. My memory.) and it got no viewers. They'll want to make more of an effort for Xmas Eve , even with soaps on ITV1.

Water Of Mars will probably be repeated on BBC3 - and yes, probaly on Xmas Eve.

The Next Doctor wasn't exactly a thrilling episode though, was it? Same loud mouthed idiot running around pretending to be the Doctor. Water on Mars on the other hand was pretty gripping, intorduced a new interesting twist on the Doctor and the conclusion links with the start of End of Time, so it'd be good to have the recap.

I think it will probably be about static with last night. It would have dropped quite a bit with no X Factor lead-in, but Katie's departure will probably make that up.

I think 10.3m sounds not far off.

Knowing my look, it'll end up something totally different!! Some shows will not end up on the day they are normally shown, for instance I've had to move Total Wipeout to Sundays @ 7pm as Saturday's are chop a block.”

The End of Time, Part Two is 75 minutes in duration.

Is Katie's departure good news for Paradox, bearing in mind that tomorrow's IAC will have a very small lead-in from John Sergeant?

I don't say Paradox will win, but might it get close to 6m. These fantasy dramas all seem to premier well - Dr Who, Merlin, Primeval, Life On Mars, Survivors. Even Demons started with 5.75m (which translated to 6.27m in the offiicals).

Also, New Year's Day is a Friday which is a heavy soap night on ITV1. I'm not sure the BBC would want to put David Tennant's final Dr Who on against Corrie and Emmerdale.

I know they put Xmas Day Dr Who on against Emmerdale, but that's different. There's a long-standing tradition in this country not to watch ITV on Xmas Day. It's on a par with Last Night Of the Proms and the State Opening Of Parliament. ITV could put the live X Factor final on on December 25th and they still wouldn't get any viewers, bless 'em.

I predict Dr Who to go out Saturday 2nd January.

The latest it can be is 1st January, as the BBC press release has it in weeks 51/52. Week 52 ends on 1st January, whilst 2nd January will be Week 1 of 2010.

That'll be a trick to stop ITV gettting wind of their plans.

Some possible options for the regeneration Dr Who:

Boxing Day (alongside Outnumbered and last ever Gavin & Stacey*? Corking line-up.)

New Year's Day 6.15- 7.30 ("Avoid Corrie but whack Emmerdale".)

New Year's Day 6.45 - 8.00 ("To pot with that. Let's whack both of them". I'm not convinced the BBC would want to put Dr Who on against Corrie cos then the Doctor won't fulfil his full ratings potential. Unless ITV move their soaps to avoid the clash. But why would they if they've got the opportunity to dent the Doctor's ratings without being accused of aggressive scheduling?)

*Gavin & Stacey episode 5 scheduled to fall on Xmas Eve. Some people are predicting a double episode on Xmas Eve to wind the series up. But I don't see double episodes as a BBC1 trait. I predict episode 5 on Xmas Eve and the final episode on Boxing Day. That has a nice feel to it.

They might air an X Factor Champion of Champions or something like that I suppose.

I think BBC1 will try and avoid the soaps away from Christmas Day. Most of the slots will be easy for Doctor Who - why complicate matters by putting it on days where ITV dominate. Just put it on Boxing Day, keeping up the tension from the night before.

I wonder if ITV'll put the soaps on Saturday as it's Boxing Day? If so, how will they organise their schedule? Maybe...

6.00 Britain Does the Funniest Things At Christmas
7.00 You've Been Framed
7.30 Harry Hill's Best of TV Burp
8.00 Emmerdale
8.30 Coronation Street
9.00 Goodnight Mister Tom (or some other old Christmas drama)

Love your idea of for the boxing day lineup Iaindb, would also do wonders for the Outnumbered christmas special which could hopfully the boost the rest of the series. However, with the Gavin and Stacey Dvd out on the 7th of December, can we see the BBC releasing the DVD with just 2 episodes only been shown?

It's an 8x60 commision and will be presented by Nick Knowles. Speculation is that it'll be one of the National Lottery shows next year. It sounds an awful lot like Deal or No Deal.

Also here's a few daytime ratings from Friday 20th December:

BBC1: Bargain Hunt (12.15-13.00) 2.0m (32%), Keep Your Enemies Close (16.05-16.35) 0.4m (3%), The Weakest Link (17.15-18.00) 2.4m (15%)
BBC2: Are You an Egghead? (16.25-17.10) 1.6m (13%), Eggheads 2.1m (11%)
ITV1: Dickinson's Real Deal (14.00-15.00) 1.2m (17%), Goldenballs (17.00-18.00) 1.6m (10%)
C4: Countdown (15.30-16.15) 0.8m (9%), Deal or No Deal (16.15-17.00) 2.1m (18%)

I think the long duration for the shows will prevent TXF from beating BGT's 17.3m. But financially, it makes sense for ITV to make the shows as long as possible.”

Nothing against Nick, but this speaks volumes for the state of BBC entertainment. If this is a lottery format, what has happened to the previous lottery show Nick presented? If that is coming back too-is Nick the only presenter the BBC has?
Maybe not a bad idea for a reality show-find a presenter!

If Doctor Who was on New Years Day, then would it clash with Corrie, surely the BBC1 will want high ratings and not risk it against Corrie so the only time it could go out is 6.15 which may be too early? I think BBC1 should put it on Boxing Day especially since its on a Saturday this year. Perhaps running Over the Hedge in the Afternoon with Total Shiteout at 6.10, Doctor Who at 7.10, Outnumbered at 8.25 as this will give it the exposure it needs and will benefit greatly from a Doctor Who lead in, plus it is also set on boxing day, with Casualty at 8.50. With a HIGNFY review of the year at 9.45 (i know its not confirmed but it did well last year). This should give gthe regenration episode lots of viewers as the Saturday of Xmas is usually crap on ITV1

I know Doctor Who part 2 would finish late but it is Christmas and it has finished around 8.30 back in the days when the Beeb would show the FA cup.

As for Christmas Eve perhaps they should stick to Comedy like they did last year. I know Gavin and Stacey will probably be a double bill, so perhaps have Flushed away on after the news finishing at 7.30 for Eastenders. My Family Xmas special at 8 against the soaps, Gavin and Stacey double bill at 9 and then Victoria Wodd at 10.

ITV have mentioned the Hour long Emmerdale(2 episodes put together)
and the 8pm Corrie slot for Thursday.

The BBC don't seem bothered to promote their Big Hour-Long episode of EastEnders.

I actually think the ITV soaps will come out top

The BBC need to push the hour long a bit more. As it is, people may assume that it's a normal half hour episode and just watch it on BBC3.

Should definately go E4 exclusive, with perhaps episodes burned off either Thursday or Friday at 8pm, or even just on T4.

C4 though were pretty stupid to just burn ER off on Saturday nights too - if they'd aired the series closely to the More4 premiere I'm sure the final episode would have got a healthy audience.

How I wish we could be like the Aussies and give the soaps a rest for the festive period, with cliff hangers on Christmas Eve not being resolved until the soaps return in January.

It'll never happen of course, but one can wish - and it's somewhere the BBC could lead the way as really there is no justification for them churning out extra episodes of EastEnders over Christmas.

Though as they've not been far off that really, I wouldn't rule it out completely. Being stupidly picky now but wish they'd gone for 7-9pm or 8-10pm - 7.30-9.30pm just seems wrong! We're not Australia you know!

It'll be low ratings through to the end of the year then - nothing of note there at all. I'd love a Peep Show Christmas special - though apart from Shameless, that's about the end of my list of C4 programmes I think could sustain a Christmas special.

Actually looking at the couple of weeks before they've got a couple of shows which could do well - Kirstie's Homemade Christmas and Jamie's Family Christmas, but the latter is lost in a mix of far too many food programmes across the week (partnered with Come Dine with Me repeats, plus The F Word and Heston's Christmas Feast).

Also yet again they schedule their own Film4 productions appallingly - having been waiting for a slot all year Hunger is playing out at 10pm on a Tuesday night. It surely should have got a shot at a 9pm slot, and if not suitable for 9pm, a 10pm slot on Sunday would have given it a better chance.

I think there's only ten episodes left, which I imagine will be burned off next summer. To be honest though, it should have been axed a good five years before it was - it's been stuck in 1969 since the millennium anyway!

Interesting to note when the ad-breaks were in I'm a Celeb:

- 21:07
- 21:25
- 21:48

The longest segment was the interview with Katie Price, will be interesting to see if it can clearly break 10m.

On a side note, pathetic from ITV to cut the evictee's interview short, couldn't they have run over to 22:05 like they did with a certain other show earlier this year?
