Both ITV and BBC's schedule looks fairly dire to me. Soaps and SCD and thats about it. I'm definitley going out or be in such a stupour that I might be too tired to care!

I suppose all 3 soaps could take bragging rights from last night. Corrie was the most watched. However Eastenders and Corrie were watched by the exact same number of people when against each other. Eastenders beat Emmerdale when they clashed yet Emmerdale had the higher average by 20k for the whole episode. Add to the equation the BBC3 EE repeat pulled in great numbers and made EE the most watched in terms of the day.

So who really wins? Nobody.

Away from the main soap situation where, regardless of who was actually first, it was a battle of denting each other - on the whole it seems like BBC One's and ITV's line-up dented BBC Two, Channel 4 and Five - primetime shares for BBC Two and Five in particular are not spectacular.

BBC One's 9pm hour did very well, in particular it proves that when you put up an alternative, people will watch.

In the 10pm hour, I think that might be IACGMOOHN's, lowest rating of the series - clearly dented by the EastEnders repeat clash.

That was always going to be the result, really. I hope the schedulers are all pleased with themselves. The only people who benefitted from that are BBC Three.

In contrast, looks like everyone won at 9pm - I'm a Celebrity holding on to a steady level despite 'her' departure, and Gavin and Stacey debuting very nicely too. Could well have been over 6m without IAC. I suppose if it holds on to that level next week - then it gets a chance to pick up some of that audience.

QI entertained its usual crowd - but its appeal isn't any wider than the 4-5m range. It was a wise move to put G&S at the start of the hour.

All those people who bought The Circus Live on DVD for Christmas presents and made it the highest selling music DVD ever (or whatever the record was) are going to be PISSED at Take That and ITV come Saturday 19th December.

Will there be a copper handcuffed to the Strictly contestants tomorrow night? The BBC might have to move it to a post watershed slot as its not suitable for a young audience But will Brucie be able to stay up that late?

The curse on this series is hilarious. You can't even make it up.

How many are actually going to make it to the floor this week?

Two were already looking doubtful, then one gets locked in police cells. Luckily he is out now, which is one big sigh of relief for them.

This could boost its ratings. People tuning in to see if Ricky Whittle takes part or if Brucie wears a toy policeman's helmet.

Very good start for Gavin & Stacey last night. I think that's the highest overnights for a BBC1 sitcom this year, although that's not necessarily an acheivement worth boasting about, giving the lack of competition.

To be honest, this figure should be within the grasp of every BBC1 sitcom worth its salt. It's not that big a figure when you compare it with what the top sitcoms used to get back in the 90's (or even the lesser ones like Waiting For God),

It would be good if Outnumbered series 3 could get closer to G&S's figure next year.

And I wonder if G&S will "do a Top Gear" and add a big timeshift in the officials. Both shows had similar overnights for their first show against the same tough ITV competiton, the TG added 930,000 in timeshift.

I agree.

BBC1 have always been the best at providing top notch family comedy programmes, and the 8:30pm slot is probably the best for it. It's a shame ITV have such control over the schedule, but the moderate success of Miranda on BBC2 might give the BBC room to take a risk.

Soap/reality v sitcom/comedy = both winners?

So, could BBC1 and BBC2 change their Monday night scheduling a bit?

BBC1
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm Inside Out
8:00pm EastEnders
8:30pm My Family
9:00pm Would I Lie To You?
9:30pm QI
10:00pm BBC News at 10 o'clock

A panel double, with an unexpected comedy night for BBC1 to compete with ITV with a different genre.

BBC2
8:00pm University Challenge
8:30pm Panorama

These audiences probably go hand in hand, for the more serious viewer.

BBC1 need to launch a new current affairs series anyway, as Panorama is not doing too well and has never been brilliantly revolutionary, and always came second to World in Action. I think it's made for BBC2.

Did DS cut any minutes out of the Emmerdale overnight?

And, being as EastEnders finished at 20:26, did they discard the last five minutes of that?

Well done to EastEnders for winning the individual soap battles last night as the scheduling made it very tough. Overall it was extremely close!

BBC3 EE repeat picked up a super number, though not a record high.

So bored of all this soap talk - it really is not that interesting - but the real story there is the multi-channel repeats. The BBC give EastEnders a fixed primetime slot on BBC3 and get 1.35m. ITV give Corrie an unpredictable late night slot at 1.10am and get 10% of that figure. No reason at all Corrie couldn't have played out at 11pm last night on ITV2 and probably got 500,000+.

No, the EastEnders rating is for the complete slot. Ah I do love the old remove 5 minutes bias we have on here...

I dont know where DS is getting its information from but the ITV press centre has Coronation Street on at 7:30pm Christmas Day and not 8pm as DS say.

Well DS doesn't make it any easier by removing the last 5 minutes for Coronation Street.

Looking at what rzt has posted, the last 5 minutes was 1.5m lower than the previous 5 minutes, whereas for Coronation Street, the last 5 minutes was 0.7m lower than the previous 5 minutes.

Based on that logic alone, you'd expect DS to remove the last 5 minutes for EastEnders as well.

Thanks rzt BTW.

Nowhere near. April 2nd: My Family: 6.83m (30.8% http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...00-for-e4.html compared to G&S's 5.63m (22.6%). However that episode of My Fmily was artificially boosted by the previous 1 hour Eastenders which ran on April 2nd 19:30 - 20:30 providing an ideal lead in for My Family.

The Paul O'Grady Show rated quite high yesterday. Usually it's more around 2m from the ratings we've seen recently. ITV News at Ten didn't do particularly well considering the good lead-in it had.

The gap between Breakfast and GMTV really widens in both viewers and share from 8am. Which presenters take over from 8am for GMTV?
