I was thinking during the Autumn - Millionaire doing poorly on a Tuesday, Family Fortunes doing brilliantly on a Sunday. I was wondering how the two quizzes would perform if they swapped slots. Here's a chance to see part of that happen.


Last night: Paraox did awful. Looks like it was hit hard by Delia. I'm interested to see if it stays that low next week against "Can Gerry Robinson Fix Dementia Care Homes?" and "Robson Green's Wild Swimming Adventure", or if it picks up a few more viewers.

I think the news certainly deserves a tribute show and tomorrow at 7.30pm or Friday 8pm seem the best slots to fit it in.

Tonight has Emmerdale at 7.30pm and tomorrow has Corrie at 8.

This is so yesterdays conversation now but really it's not that bad at all for BBC1. The only hour of primetime they may not win is 7pm when it's Strictly vs Corrie - but if they don't win they won't be far behind. ITV's better tactic would have been pushing Corrie later to say 9pm, forcing the BBC comedies later in to the evening.


If ITV aren't going to put much effort into original content over Christmas and New Year I think a good idea would be to repeat some of their biggest one-off dramas from the last 12 months during the final week of the year.

TV is crying out for something to challenge in the 10.35pm slot - broadcasters pretty much give up at 10/11pm nowadays. Partnering a late-night chat show with News at Ten could really work well for ITV if they gave it the chance.

Just saw the Christmas films advert on BBC1. Quite long and quite good.

I fully agree, they ought to try something out for 10.35pm - I think it would do well.

It would be great to have a nightly late night chat show again. Graham Norton actually did it very well and they work in the US.

The problems are finding a good host and the cost - ITV for example haven't got 2p to rub together for the 10.35pm slot, never mind commissioning a nightly chat show.

Alan Carr could probably give it a go on Channel 4 now they've got rid of Big Brother. His show is very funny and quite consistent. Plus he has managed to get some big guests - Mariah Carey, Black Eyed Peas.

Nightly chatshows are really hard to do and unlike in America, there aren't an infinite amounts of guests, V Graham Norton was very hit and miss.

Looking at Digiguide, Five seemed to have a change of heart with Heads or Tails as it was originally scheduled for 7-8pm but it's been moved to 6pm, stripping it across Christmas is a win win situation as if it is a flop it's gone within two weeks.

BBC Two kind of have a chat show. They have Newsnight followed by one hour chat show content such as Music/Reviews etc... I believe Newsnight and all the content in the one hour following it used to be one chat show some many moons ago.

I would say January or February with January being more likely, Film4 productions air on Channel 4 first then repeated on Film4, Happy Go Lucky was in cinemas last year and it is airing on Sunday.

The problem is you not only have to spend money to make money, but you have to spend money wisely to make money.

Only through investment can ITV (or any broadcaster) expect to make gains, they need to channel money into creating new long-running hits across several genres.

One place ITV has pulled its finger out is with documentaries, for 2010 they have nearly 30 hour-long documentaries with famous facies such as Trevor McDonald, Ray Meers, David Suchet and Griff Rhys Jones. This is excellent. I would spread these out in a fixed Tuesday 9pm slot over 2010, a dedicated home for documentaries.

The best plan is to establish these genres in familiar homes so viewers can easily know they can find an authorial documentary weekly at 9pm Tuesdays, for example, or a homegrown sitcom at 8.30pm on Tuesday etc, or a thrilling drama at 9pm on Monday.

Whatever happened to ITV's regional programme Here and Now they planned? I would schedule that throughout the year on Wednesday nights at 7pm.

Not that being rubbish need stop it being it a success. ITV3 have just been repeating On The Buses and that used to get 20m viewers (and the first film beat James Bond at the UK box office back in 1971).

I see Big Top as being similar in its comic-book, hammy style as My Hero and that ran for 6 series.

Eventually, maybe. But people won't know it's crap until they've watched it. Well, they could guess. I guessed, but I still watched it. Fool. To paraphrase Hans Moleman when he got locked in the Kwik-e-Mart in The Simpsons: "You owe me half an hour of my life. Oh, I'd only have wasted it."

Tonight's first episode was on against Emmerdale but The One Show's been getting 5m against that over the last couple of nights and Jimmy's Food Factory was taking 4m in that slot against Corrie.

Next week BT is on against a dead Champions League game, so maybe it'll get more viewers next week. (Not me. I've learned my lesson.).

i think it will make it even bigger next year. But if it's on a Saturday & Sunday would it be both days or just the Sunday?
There will be a lot of people that would buy a ticket. Also it will refresh the show a little, like what has happened this year - having a few changes every year definately helps it.

I missed it, but I agree...that is pretty bad on ITV's part. One of Corrie's biggest stars dies whilst still currently in the show and they can't acknowledge it at all.

Also slightly o/t again but has I'm A Celeb's budget ran out?? The trials seem to be getting more makeshift by the day!

If they can afford to put a chat show out at 3pm then I'm sure they can afford to put one out at 10:35pm.

My proposal: The Dara O'Briain Show, 150 episodes per 'series', aired 5 times a week, 2 special guests + 1 music guest per show, best of on Sundays, 30 wks between September & May (9 wks of reruns mixed in) + summer break, ITV2 repeat nightly at 6pm. (good alternative to news on ITV1)

Who's with me? J. Ross has been weak for a while, a bit of chat show rivalry would liven up Friday nights. I think Dara would easily exceed Jonathan in the comedy stakes, not so sure about calibre of guests because J.R. does manage to attract some big names from time to time. Stripping it across the week would mean one less slot to worry about each night, at least for 9 months of the year.
