I shouldn't laugh but... Trust ITV to get a bunch of resourceful camp mates when they put a rat into camp! I'm guessing 11 million is the peak, which is pretty good. Hopefully we should get confirmation tomorrow on the average.

Thats a pretty silly story if true. But why wasn'y Stuart arrested days ago when he came out?

11m does sound like the peak. Average I reckon will be low 9s.

I reckon ITV had to 'check' whether the rat was tame or wild - after all, it wouldn't be good to have Stuart arrested while the series was ongoing.

Mind you, I've just had a thought. The Coming Out show is on on Monday. Will it bring it up? Are ITV taking advantage and playing out another publicity stunt?

Well all publicity is good publicity.

I thought XF was dreadful tonight. Just in terms of entertainment it was probably the most boring show of the season. The talent is mediocre so there's nothing to get excited about and without the car crash of Jedward it's all just a bit dreary. Thank god for Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson is all I can say.

If the I'm a Celebrity trial goes ahead and them jailed, I think that may very well be the last of I'm a Celebrity we see.

I don't think ITV's going to let a little bit of porridge ruin one of their biggest ratings winners.

They could have this as one of the challenges next year:
"Here are two rats. One is dead, the other one is only stunned. You have to cut up and cook one of them. If you pick the right rat, you win 5 meals for the camp. If you pick the wrong rat, it's three years in Sydney Parkhurst.

I predict a new location for next year's series.

Costa Rica would work better anyway. The Oz location stops ITV starting the show before 8pm (6am Oz time & first light). Costa Rica would give them more flexibility over scheduling, less satellite link issues and is a much nicer place anyway.

The weather in Costa Rica at this time of the year wouldn't be suitable. Australia's got the advantage of being summer in November. And I would have thought the 6am time would have worked to their advantage as they can edit the programme over night when the contestants aren't likely to be doing much so they can give a full account of the day.

And also I'm pretty sure they use Granada Australia production staff rather than shipping them over from here so again, much easier and cheaper.

I think that the Coming Out show is mostly pre-recorded, if not, all.

Predictions for last night:

Merlin - 5m
Strictly (p1) - 9.3m
Lottery - 4.1m
Casualty - 4.5m
The Impressions Show - 3m
Strictly (p2) - 8m

TV Burp - 5.3m (note: was a 'Best Of' edition)
The X Factor - 12.6m
Rod Stewart - 5.4m

I think we'll see rises for both Strictly and The X Factor given that the clash was a lot less this week than last week.

Merlin may drop below 5m though I think due to the earlier start time. TV Burp I also think will be down quite a bit due to the fact it wasn't a 'normal' TV Burp.

Rod Stewart should do quite well and given that the 'Carpenters' programme a few weeks back had nearly 6m, I think Rod should get a similar figure.

Friday
- good rating for the I'm a Celebrity final as expected, but apart from that... a pretty subdued night really, nothing else stands out massively. Soap ratings seem pretty low considering we're in December. BBC1 held up well against Celebrity nothing falling below 3m. Can't believe the ITV News still couldn't beat the BBC News...
- poor night for BBC Two and Five, Channel 4 though did OK if not spectacular.

Saturday
- a lot less viewers watching compared to last week: 24.9m watching last night when X Factor was on compared to 25.7m watching last week. Still managed to increase though, even by a small margin. As an early prediction, I think we're looking at 14.5m, maybe edging nearer to 15m for the Saturday show. TV Burp did very well considering it was a 'Best of' and Rod did well as well.
- Strictly did OK, although it was down on last week... quite surprising despite no X Factor clash. Impressions Show up on last week... but I'm guessing it was inflated massively by the last 10 minutes as viewers hopped from ITV1 to BBC1. Merlin did well considering the earlier timeslot.
- BBC Two had an OK night, but poor night for Channel 4 and Five.

Can't believe ITV's Friday and Saturday primetime share is the same, weird!
Score

Excellent as always for The X Factor, it seems to have settled at around the 12.5m mark for the Saturday shows. Interesting to see Strictly dip despite it being split into two shows, and only having a 10 minute clash with The X Factor. This series just doesn't seem to have connected as well with the public and that is a very poor audience for the results show (by Strictly standards, of course). Rod Stewart did surprisingly well, and 6.2m is excellent for a TV Burp 'best of' show. The Impressions Show held up pretty well against X Factor, too.

As for Friday, great for IAC, and to be up on last year is excellent. HIGNFY and LATA took a hit but hopefully they'll be back up next week. The soaps seem very low; I think people are going off them somewhat, as they aren't great quality-wise (the ITV ones are cringeworthy to watch).

Fantastic Rating for The I'm a Celebrity Finale. It has been one of the best series In my opinion.

It has also done very ratings wise beating the series averages for the past 4 years.

The soaps were quite low friday night though. EastEnders and Coronation Street very close.

The X Factor last night did well again. 12.4m is great. I think tonight's results could make 14m with lady gaga making an appearance and it being the semi final.

I think an average of 14.4m is a good guess.

Some observations:

- Strictly really has panned this year. I have personally never watched it but the fact that it is 3.6m behind The X Factor is shocking. What can they do to revive it?

- Solid figure for the semi final of The X Factor. That 50% share is the best since the live shows began (it's averaged 44%) Less people watching TV presumably due to Christmas shopping running til 9pm etc?

- Last year's XF overnights:

Semi-final: performances 9.7m, results 9.8m
Final: performances 13.2m (up 3.5m), results 13.5m (up 3.7m)

- Due to the runtimes for next week (90 minutes on both days) I predict around 15m for Saturday's show and 16m for Sunday's show.

Elsewhere, great for Harry Hill.

Were'nt the BGT live shows getting around the 12 to 13 million mark? It maybe that we have found the current core level these types of shows and it does seem that BGT has prompted this surge for XF.
