I dunno really about Garrow's Law...I played it safe in the RPG (4.4m) because I thought/still think it could go either way.

However whatever happens I think in a couple of weeks when IAC and TG return it will most certainly get slaughtered and perhaps fall under 3m?

Well that goes without saying. More people in, more people watching.

This looks to me more like a BBC2 programme, but sometimes BBC1 puts quality of programme ahead of quantity of viewers, and that's exactly what they should be doing. It's one of the justifications for the licence fee.

BREAKING NEWS

Australia: The launch of 7Two improves Seven's overall share of viewing by 14% week-on-week.

Breakdown for the main 3 commercial networks along with their digital offspring:

Seven/7TWO - 31.8%
Nine/GO! - 26.4%
Ten/ONE - 21.2%

That is quite a big gap on a night that is traditionally one of Nine's best performing.

You may be right-I only saw the first few seconds but the caption about real Old Bailey archive cases sounded very Casualty 1907/8/9 to me. I think there are 4 episodes , so thrusting the first two against the end episodes of Doc Martin isnt bright-unless they arent expecting all that much.ITV1's Sunday nights are about as dominant as last Autumns were anaemic, and its hard to see much change in Autumns to come unless Strictly results are moved back.

Yes, ITV1 was sure hit by people not watching ITV1 last night.

Do grandparents not go to Halloween parties too?

It's an interesting demographic that the TXF core viewership seemingly has - they stay in religiously for half the Saturday nights in the year. Apart from Halloween, when they all go out...

Yet if Casualty was attracting a solid 7m every week, TXF or not, you'd be moaning that the Beeb were denting TXF and depriving ITV1 of its 'right to print money by not having popular programmes on BBC1 at the same time as its biggest shows'.

Not sure whether you're just gloating or genuinely aggrieved that the BBC is letting one of its most established shows suffer from being up against TXF.

Least the Beeb could do is give it a chance by running it straight after SCD and the lotto later.

I wouldn't be surprised if Casualty became a one hour show next year and got a 9pm weekday slot (Fridays would be a good bet; it did air 9.30-10.20 for a couple of seasons around 1990-91 IIRC) - as GeorgeS rightly (for once) says, it's now screwed by TXF, DOI (presumably) and BGT for almost all of its run.

Is there any difference in reality?

I think HIGNFY is now being dented by the extended Saturday night edition. I know I am not alone in not watching the Friday show because as a fan of the show, I'd rather wait for the longer version. The fact the Saturday show consistently gets such high ratings for BBC2 (considering the opposition) just shows what damage the Beeb are doing (as ever...) to one of their flagship shows.

Maybe they should just stick to the Friday BBC1 show, the BBC2 repeat, and make a new end of year/Christmas show out of the best bits they cut out.

I am really surprised at how well Benidorm has held up without the jokes. Perhaps people never tuned in to it in the first place for the comedy - maybe ITV's core audience thinks it's a "Brits abroad" documentary?

I agree with bob.cryer's X Factor prediction, though I'd expect Doc Martin to hit over seven million again.

Ok for The X Factor - I went back to last week, when it got 11.6m and the percentage was at 44%, so a loss of 1.5m equating to 3% - could anyone good at maths tell me whether there were less people watching TV last night?

Strictly Come Dancing held up well, as did the rest of BBC1's schedule.

Garrow's Law will be interesting. It's up against a juggernaut with a lead in so it's going to be tough to have much of an impact TBH.

As for Friday - Benidorm is doing excellently. Have I Got News For You will be boosted by the Saturday repeat I would imagine.

In the slot last week there were around 26.3m watching. This week was around 24.3m.

Thanks. So 2m down, and 1.5m were X Factor viewers. Guess that does explain the loss really.

No I think its the fact that its as tame as a pet poodle (and about as funny as well), althought its great to see Ian Hislop slowly coming out as a Tory

I sometimes wonder whether it might not just be you that doesnt get it as opposed to the 6m who do get it. Maybe, just maybe.......

Sunday's Overnights appear to have been delayed I think - none of the main media sites have updated, nor have ITV Insider on Twitter and Channel 4 Sales updated.

Massive rating for The X Factor, its highest ever. It's also higher than every single Britain's Got Talent overnight rating apart from the final 2 shows of the 2009 series (15.3m and 17.3m).

Doc Martin also getting a series high and cementing its place as the most watched drama episode this year. BBC1's lineup held up quite well against ITV's juggernauts with a decent 20%+ primetime share. I don't think Garrow's Law could've done much better against that type of competition.
