This is interesting. Corrie repeats are roughly level or even ahead of EE in terms of share - but in the wee small hours that only equates to about 100k. Why not air them earlier when they could potentially get almost 5 times that number?

I know this is a bit late, but I'm really happy BBC1 have continued with Waterloo Road, after the last series only averaged 4.2 Million, I feared they would pull the plug, however, now I think it could be the cornerstone of what generally was a weak Wednesday night.

Great ratings for The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing, both getting their highest Saturday ratings of the series.

Merlin's dropped to its lowest audience of its series (possibly ever), but the start time was so early. It should be back up to around 5m next week with the slightly later start.

YBF and TV Burp are about 1m down from a few weeks ago. Not sure why that's happened, but the ratings are still good.

Good rating for the Festival of Remembrance, its about the same as last year's rating.

Great rating for The X Factor, good also for Strictly. Merlin held up well despite the early start.

Disappointing for Piers though to be quite honest.

Interesting to see that You've Been Framed and TV Burp were still down, suggesting that they were hit by bonfire displays, and X Factor wasn't (although I suspect that on another night it would have been above 12m). Strictly did very well, and Merlin was hit by moving even earlier again. They really need to treat this show much better.

Good as always for the Remembrance Festival, and Life Stories seemed to be hit slightly by it. Interesting to see the equivalent weekend's figures from last year:

Could also be that as Halloween is the only Saturday night between August and Christmas that devoted TXF followers have a social life (according to GeorgeS et al), it would have been too much for them to have ventured out last night as well...


Not the great leap forward for TXF that many on here were expecting given there was hardly any SCD clash this week and a "free run" of Lotto, Casualty and a remembrance service. Some were confidently predicting 13 or 14m.

A large number of people who tune in for the Sunday show (in itself skewed slightly by millions of non-TXF followers inevitably flicking over to see the result at the end having waded through acres of "coverage" in their Sunday papers) are still not bothering to watch the performance show on Saturdays, even with its supposed "free run" last night and SCD acting as a primer than competition.

Shame that Piers meets Ronnie C was thrashed by the remembrance service - perhaps they'd have been better putting out Boris Becker last night when no-one was watching and saving a national treasure like Ronnie for a night when BBC1 offered up a less aggressive schedule.

Good numbers for extended HIGNFY - unfortunate that people like me who now commit to the Saturday airing are dragging down BBC1's numbers on Fridays. Still, around 7m for a comedy news quiz is impressive.

Piers Morgan p*sses away an 8 million audience inheritance after X Factor! Shame to see The Thick Of it dipping below 1m...probably the sort of figures it was getting over on BBC4; you have to wonder why BBC2 "poached" it if they couldn't give it a better slot (10.15 on a Saturday???) or at least promote it a bit. I mean, it's not going to become a big mainstream comedy hit by its very nature but it deserves a good million more viewers than that!! And well done too to the BBc for throwing Merlin away, just throwing it away. Say what you like about ITV - and God knows I do - but at least they know how to schedule their shows to maximum effect. The BBC remain pretty clueless in that regard and they just throw away some good stuff by scheduling it badly or just not promoting it.

I completely agree. I love The Thick of It but it's been completely thrown away in the Saturday slot. A weekday slot (perhaps paired up with QI repeats, which always do well) would be far better, but really, it seems a better fit on BBC4. Merlin has been wasted this year. They should have held it back until January when they could give it a proper, primetime slot, rather than the bordering on daytime slots it's had this year.

I've noticed of late a complete absence of BBC billboard advertising for its programming. I suppose in an era of budget cutbacks, it's not sustainable. Plus the criticism of the BBC being too commercial in publicising its offerings to its licence fee-payers. Contrast that with giant skyscraper-sized advertising hoardings for TXF (such as the one I drive past every day en route to work...) and you can see why the Beeb is up against it and why ITV has a real advantage here.

Not sure why the show coming from the Tower ballroom rather than TV Centre would cause Lancastrian viewers to ditch TV Burp in favour of SCD for one week only. But if that's right, maybe the gains there were offset by London viewers giving it a miss?

Strictly is doing pretty atrociously - I mean its rating is one of the best so far, but it's still p*ss poor compared to The X Factor.

You can tell me all you want that it's level with last year but in terms of growth it is going nowhere fast, whereas The X Factor is rising all the time.

The BBC will be livid.

Not really - it's been around long before television! I don't think it's that much of a factor really, and neither was Halloween - that was just a convenient explanation for last week.
