Is it correct to say that the DM Series 4 figures exclude potential viewers in Scotland, unlike Series 3 ??

The overnight figures include viewers in Scotland who watched whatever STV were showing. (If STV did show DM, its overnights would definitely be even higher).

The official figures don't include Scottish viewers, just the remainder of the UK that actually watched Doc Martin.

I wasn't trying to attack you.

All I was saying is that everything is best kept in one post so its easier for others to follow. You were posting ratings info in several different posts, which is difficult for others to follow.

People just want to come on and see all the ratings in one post and not all scrawled out in 2 or 3 seperate posts. DS does have an 'EDIT' function for up to half an hour to post.

Of course its impossible to edit posts if one website updates at 10am yet the rest don't update until 2pm.

I'm not trying to nitpick, I'm just saying that it'd be much easier to follow if it was all compiled in one or two different posts.

I must confess that I thought ITV were mad to repeat TV Burp in such a similar slot to the original screening and thought it would bomb ratings wise (although I didnt go on the record on this !) I've been amazed that it gets close to 5m for the repeat - it kind of defies all logic really. I think it got 5.41m on Saturday, so its close to a 50/50 split between Saturday & Sunday night. Could any other show achieve that? I cant really think of many, although I suppose My Family was getting good numbers for its in-week repeats as well.

Doc Martin is pretty much certain to get a fifth series but it's likely be another two years although I think ITV1 will probably spread out their dramas next year due to the World Cup.

Well, all the more reason for Mr Cowell to keep them in!

After glancing at some of the threads in the XF forum Im not sure everyone was happy but i get your drift. I wonder how many of the ones who are saying the will never watch the show again will actually follow that through?

This must have been ITV's best performance for years on Sundays. To be honest I dont think that scheduling XF itself on Sundays should be classed as an act of genius-at the end of the day people were never going to boycott a show giving more of the same as the Saturday one. However the genre change from the Heartbeat style to reality has captured the mood. Heartbeat used to get 18 million regular viewers, comfort viewing for a mass audience. However that type of show was always going to shed viewers bit by bit to a wider choice -along with the once impregnable soaps.

ITV will miss Doc Martin and Benidorm next year but there is no doubt this last 8 weeks have been a colossal hit for them. They have made all the right decisions.

ITV's Sunday success should continue with IAC then DOI/Wild At Heart. Also I think Ant & Dec's new show could do very well.

Thinking about it more ITV would be stupid to not adopt a similar schedule for Jan-March 2010:

7pm-All Star Mr & Mrs (if ready for broadcasting)
8pm-DOI Results
9pm-Wild At Heart

This is almost an identical schedule to what ITV have been airing for the past 8 weeks, same genres of programming. Obviously all 3 of those programmes aren't as big as the combination ITV have had on Sundays atm, but I could see a recurring pattern of 6m, 9m, 7m in the 7-10pm slots.

Though ITV do have a bit of a problem between DOI and XF next year. They will have the occasional good Sunday with BGT etc, but they need to find a decent hit that can do well on a Sunday.

16.6 million? Wow.

The show keeps hitting new heights. That ITV2 audience is fantastic as well - obviously a lot of people switching over after that result. I agree with Sprogg that the twins are bringing in the viewers and their exit from the competition will have a detrimental effect.

Dying to see how it does next week now.

ITV really should do that for Dancing on Ice. Their Saturdays for early next year don't look great at the moment with shows like Popstars to Opera Stars. Having Dancing on Ice performances on Saturday would really bring stability to ITV's schedule and the results would do well on Sunday as well. Even if the results are pre-recorded, the ratings won't be affected (like SCD the in 2007 and 2008).

For DOI's latest series, some of the results shows were starting at 21:30 and getting under 7m. At 8pm, I'm certain they'd improve. Wild at Heart at 9pm would still get around 7m, maybe as high as 8m.

And then after Dancing on Ice, why not have BGT auditions over 5 weeks on Saturdays and Sundays. 9 audition episodes altogether (one Saturday off for the Champions League Final) which is two more auditions shows than the 2009 series so not too much extra. They could go with:

19:00- Heartbeat
20:00- Britain's Got Talent
21:00- Drama (Lewis/The Prisoner/Married, Single, Other)

If ITV scheduled their shows like that, they could do well on both Saturdays and Sundays from January-late May next year. Then you have the World Cup, then July & August won't be the best of months like always, but before you know it The X Factor's back for another series.

Good schedule and I think moving Dancing on Ice back to Saturdays would work especially against SYTYCD. I think if the gameshows aren't ready then slot Wild at Heart at 7pm, be interesting what the big ITV dramas are, I'm thinking The Prisoner and Married, Single, Other.

According to Media Guardian, Five's highest ratings from the first terrestrial showing of The Aristocats which got 2.4m which is impressive considering it's nearly forty years old. Five did well to secure Disney films as they've performed really well.

Holby is on all year with extras, Deal or No Deal is on weekdays and an extra one at weekends, digital channels all repeat the same few hit shows over and over again etc.

This whole argument started about the hour long EastEnders, so even the BBC won't drop an episode of EastEnders lost by Children in Need.”

Why should they?EastEnders is on 4 times a week
Corrie and Emmerdale are on more and have alot of Special Epiosdes too.
The only time Enders has an hour episode is to catch up on a missed one.Its only really xmas when they BBC add in extra episodes

I've made a strategy for ITV1: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1159313

It involves clearing the soaps out of the 8pm hour, moving The Bill to inherit Holby's Tuesday audience and focusing on big talent, entertainment and all-round drama both in the 8 and 9pm slots.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Why are people gushing over the X Factor figure? Its an excellent number but its not like its come out of the blue. I watched the show, was gripped by the result and glad of the final result but considering what happened is it that surprising?

Excellent figures for the XF and SO well deserved. The show just gets bigger and bigger every year. It's remarkable. I do think there has to be a ceiling though and this series could be the peak it can't keep growing and growing every year or can it. It is astounding the growth both Cowell formats have experienced in popularity. They are soaring above everything else on TV and are ITV are lucky to have Cowell on board.

Great ratings for Doc Martin too. Antiques Roadshow held up again against the onslaught. I think this is when BBC1 works best when it's providing an alternative. It's obviously paying off for them.

It's funny because everyone thought it had peaked last year and then this series has come along and blown it out of the water. I agree though that I think this is it now. I can't see it getting any bigger next year. Same goes for Britain's Got Talent. They'll still do well but I don't anticipate any new highs.

First off, good early evening for Five with good ratings. The Remembrance Sunday service did well as well considering the time it was on. The X Factor breakdown makes for interesting reading in my view - viewers appear to be really only tuning in their masses in the last quarter of the hour.

The football also did well on Sky Sports.

As said about 213 times The X Factor rating was amazing.

The reason I came on here though was to ask the US Ratings person what was the demo for 20/20 last night?

It got 8.1m viewers, but would have thought with Rihanna on it would skew very young?

Also, how is The Amazing Race doing ratings-wise? I cant google it because I am a few eps behind and am worried it will spoil it for me!

Thanks!

Very good ratings for The Wizard of Oz and The Aristocats and it made up for Five's so so performance in primetime against The X Factor and Doc Martin, when you consider how old they are, it is nice that people still like watching classics. Digiguide has Pocahontas down in two weeks and I believe that hasn't been shown on terrestrial television so I imagine it will pull in similar ratings to The Aristocats.
