A few random observations:
Remembrence cermony programmes continue to be highly viewed compared to what the slots normally get (incl. Songs Of Praise & The Words Of War). I suspect its the Afghanistan effect partly causing this. The FA Cup 1st round matches did ok (I suspect the Saturday live match got around 1m). Its never going to get spectatular figures but certainly justifies the coverage The soap omnibus (whats the plural of omnibus?) are flagging. Other than fill up a few hours of weekend daytime, do they really need to be on ITV1/ BBC1? |

Why are people gushing over the X Factor figure? Its an excellent number but its not like its come out of the blue. I watched the show, was gripped by the result and glad of the final result but considering what happened is it that surprising?
The fact that The X Factor has been getting Christmas Day style ratings for practically 2 months get's a lot of attention and rightly so. |

Many thanks to DMN for providing that list. It deserves a rating all by itself.

The BBC's Eastenders omnibus has always been the more high profile-I cant see them ditching that-(as a matter of interest it provided a hefty leg up to the 30.10 million that the Den and Angie divorce saga achieved Christmas 1986).
Coronation Street at 400,000 does rather give the impression of wallpaper(or them just bunging a video in and going to the pub) though maybe they dont have anything else practical to put there. |

I would love to see some older US tv series repeated in daytime - stuff like Magnum or the A Team. I think that would at least get 500k in that slot. |

The X Factor breakdown makes for interesting reading in my view - viewers appear to be really only tuning in their masses in the last quarter of the hour.
Programmes such as this pile on extra viewers for the climax (unless you are SCD), but there's a massive audience that watch the whole thing. |

Massive ratings should rightly be celebrated in this thread
It's a shame for ITV that their highest ratings for BGT & TXF have come at the same time as the lowest spend on advertising due to the recession. |

For me, X Factor is just a bit of fun and entertaining
John and Edward are both that and as long as they finish no higher than 3rd then it is ok. Some people take the show too seriously, you only have to see some of the threads in the X Factor forum! Quote:
ITV really should do that for Dancing on Ice. Their Saturdays for early next year don't look great at the moment with shows like Popstars to Opera Stars. Having Dancing on Ice performances on Saturday would really bring stability to ITV's schedule and the results would do well on Sunday as well. Even if the results are pre-recorded, the ratings won't be affected (like SCD the in 2007 and 2008).
For DOI's latest series, some of the results shows were starting at 21:30 and getting under 7m. At 8pm, I'm certain they'd improve. Wild at Heart at 9pm would still get around 7m, maybe as high as 8m. And then after Dancing on Ice, why not have BGT auditions over 5 weeks on Saturdays and Sundays. 9 audition episodes altogether (one Saturday off for the Champions League Final) which is two more auditions shows than the 2009 series so not too much extra. |

The reason I came on here though was to ask the US Ratings person what was the demo for 20/20 last night?
It got 8.1m viewers, but would have thought with Rihanna on it would skew very young? Last week it had 6.9m and a 1.6 demo rating (adults 18-49). It improved this week to 8.2m and 2.7. 1 ratings point = 1.32m viewers. So this week, 43% of the audience were aged 18-49 compared to 31% last week. It had its best ratings in the 18-49 demo of this season. With younger viewers (18-34) it had a 2.3 rating, the best since January 2006. |

Sunday US Overnights
CBS:
NFL Overrun into primetime has skewed figures but it seems to be the same as usual, Amazing Race doing well and Cold Case and Three Rivers bombing. ABC: 8pm – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – 10.4m (3.0) 9pm – Desperate Housewives – 13.3m (4.3) 10pm – Brothers and Sisters – 9.1m (2.9) ABC slumped against the football, Housewives and B&S both at season lows and down double digit percentages from last week. FOX: 8pm – Family Guy – 7.4m (3.7) 8.30pm – Family Guy Presents... – 6.6m (3.4) 9pm – Family Guy – 7.7m (4.0) 9.30pm – Cleveland Show – 6.3m (3.2) NBC: 8.30pm – Sunday Night Football – 19.8m (7.6) Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys which is, AFAIK, a pretty big game with some big name players. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/11/09...hit-lows/32970 |

Its great that Life is repeated. The Sunday figures must mean the overall total approaches 9 million. Which is well deserved as its simply beautiful and its good that so many watch such a show in the midst of all this reality frenzy.

The EastEnders omnibus is as consistent as ever. For more years than I care to remember it has been between 1.5-2m now occasionally rising if it's been a particularly dramatic week in the show. I have no idea why ITV1 bother to show an omnibus of Corrie when firstly they don't repeat Emmerdale and secondly Corrie is repeated on ITV2 several times both in singular episodic form for each episode and then omnibus form.
Countryfile did well for BBC1. 6m might be a pittance compared to the 14m tuned into XF on the other side but in any other situation 6m would be considered decent by anyone's standards and if the shoe was on the other foot how many ITV1 shows would put 6m in against 14m on BBC1. I think BBC1 will be a bit disappointed with Garrow's Law but it was never going to stand much of a chance up against DM which has been performing amazingly. DM is even more popular than New Tricks is. It's a shame it probably won't be on next year. Maybe GL will be boosted next week from the lack of DM. Edit - Ignore me I'm having a blonde moment. Countryfile wasn't on against X Factor. My point still stands though as AR was on against XF and achieved near enough 6m.

a) Doc Martin b) I'm A Celebrity and Top Gear If you ask me, Garrow's Law has a big chance of sinking under 3 million. |

Simon choosing ratings over talent. He obviously knew that Lucie had come bottom in the phone vote, the producer Richard Holloway probably told him just before the judge's vote.
Imagine if a Prime Minister could look at General Election results before deciding whether or not to accept them.

I think it shows that whatever ITV throw at BBC on a sunday night it will never crumble. Arguably one of their most consistent entertainment shows, their top reality show and top Drama and BBC One can still maintain a solid 20% share.
I doubt there is much channel hopping between X Factor and Antiques Roadshow! |

On a Sunday night they're both doing totally different things from 7pm to 9pm at least. It's noticeable that where BBC1 performs poorly is at 9pm where there is probably most audience overlap.
I doubt there is much channel hopping between X Factor and Antiques Roadshow! X Factor and Antiques Roadshow together took just short of 70% of the TV audience between 8 and 9pm. |
