Good stuff for Collision. A fall is inevitable but if it stays above 6m tonight then I reckon ITV will be happy. It's only on Wednesday that it might be hit more significantly but it should recover on Thursday and Friday anyway.

Thursdays... at 10pm? Interesting. ITV beginning to phase out News at Ten maybe?

Media Guardian this afternoon confirms that The Apprentice will be pushed back to the middle of the Summer: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009...election-clash

Probably will run from July to October I'm guessing. Loving how it says it'll clash with Big Brother... I mean, is it really a clash any more? One getting 8m, the other 2m isn't really a major clash in my book.

Excellent for Collision and it seemed to dent FlashForward a bit as well as Life. And if a new drama can dent the terrestrials quite a bit then I think IAC will have an easy time next Monday of getting 8m+.

I predict around 5.8m for Collision tonight. I just can't see viewers sticking around and there's no Corrie lead in AND Tuesday is a day which traditionally ITV doesn't do well in. But I think anything over 5m will be considered a success, because I'm guessing ITV didn't expect it to premiere with 7.5m.

ITV have some excellent schedules in place on Sunday & Monday and they know what their audience wants in these slots so they need to keep the schedules in place so they don't lose the viewers.

Why on earth would they phase out News at Ten? I think it's safe to say that it won't be on a Thursday at 10pm.

Almost as laughable as the notion that Corrie would be moved out of its 7.30pm slot on Fridays. And everyone lapped that up as well.

My first post here in months.

A very good first rating for Collision, which gives tonight's episode a lot to live up to. I think anything below 6.5m will be disappointing based on its first performance. The next few weeks should be good for ITV with I'm A Celebrity returning, paired with The X Factor at weekends, and new formats being tested on Wednesdays.

That's under the yearly slot average of 45,800 (0.75%). Not a good start!”

If you think it will change fair enough but I hope you're not trying to say I was lying about it being pencilled in for Thursday at 10pm.

I work in the media and have access to that site

Obviously the second episode won't air in 2012 that's an error.

I know I was a bit hostile to a few people in this thread over the weekend but that's no reason to call me a liar. And I wasn't actually meaning to cause anybody any real offence.

I agree. The hyping of a clash in MediaGuardian is just weird. 4 years ago, maybe - but even then, its only one night a week - if BB stays at 9.

A July start is likely I would expect, given that the final would otherwise air in the height of summer. They can launch it after the World Cup is through, and the climax will be in late September / early October, which would bring it very nice numbers.

Perhaps another reason behind the BBC pushing back some drama for Q1 and 2 next year (Silent Witness, Survivors. etc). Also, this move could leave the BBC airing its most popular weekday format (The Apprentice) along with its most popular weekday drama (New Tricks) in August of next year. Not exactly prime time for maximising ratings - certainly compared to ITV who've reaped the rewards of pulling out their strongest line-up in October.

DS report slightly differently for soaps, so:

19:00 - Emmerdale: 7.4m (33.9%)
* 19:00 to 19:25 - 7.28m (33.7%)
* 19:25 to 19:30 - 8.00m (34.9%)

20:30 - Coronation Street: 9.1m (36.9%)
* 20:30 to 20:55 - 9.58m (38.6%)
* 20:55 to 21:00 - 6.70m (28.4%)

Also, worth noting that Collision peaked with 8.2m (32.6%) between 21:05 and 21:10. With the knowledge that the first quarter averaged 8.1m (32.5%), the breakdown I gather went like:

20:50 - ~9.58m
20:55 - 6.70m
21:00 - 8.00m
21:05 - 8.20m
21:10 - 8.10m

Something like that. So why did 3 million Coronation Street viewers tune out at 20:55 only for 1.5 million to retune back in 5 minutes later? Slightly bizarre.

Well saying "and people lapped that up too" implied I was lying. I never said the schedule was confirmed just that that's what the preview site where you can watch the show has it down as.

Maybe the 1.5m viewers weren't Corrie viewers? Maybe they were those who were watching Panorama, The Gadget Show, Miranda etc? And the 1.5m who tunes out went to watch FlashForward, Life or simply turn off the TV

They went to the toilet, went to make a cup of tea?

They don't have to have physically turned the TV off, BARB boxes register if people have left the room. (It's stuff like this which makes me wonder if and how people can be bothered to press buttons every time they come and go)

Regarding Coronation Street, it seems it's the climax of a major storyline next week. It's annoying for fans of headline high ratings as all except Monday's episodes will have tough competition, so the episodes may end up rating lower than a normal one would.

The site does say 10pm as i am also in the media, although i did not say 10pm as it doesn't seem correct.

So the perfect excuse to move New Tricks into an Autumn slot. They could try Sunday night if ITV fail to find something strong to fill Doc Martin's slot. Or try it on a Wednesday. If blokeish Spooks can get 6m against the football then NT should have no trouble holding on to its usual 8m.

Hmmm, I don't think it'll air on that day at 10pm. It would be silly to move the news around. The following day at 9pm sounds more likely, as there's a couple of free Friday slots before Christmas Day.

The Alan Titchmarsh Show to move to 5pm from next year.

Not sure how well it will do there, presumably it will share the slot with The Chase, Divided and Britains Best Dish next year.

You have to wonder why they are bothering with investment in the daytime schedule.

Sky1 have made some dreadful commissions this year.

ITV can't do that. They can't upset Amanda. She might quit BGT in fury and that would be the beginning of the end of their biggest TV series.

Could be good news for Countdown. I reckon the reason its ratings have hit an all-time low is because Alan captures the granny audience.

I can only assume the logic went:

- Loose Woman is a big daytime hit for ITV1
- Denise Welch is in Loose Women
- Denise Welch is in Waterloo Road
- Angela Griffin is in Waterloo Road
- Let's sign Angela Griffin up for our version of Loose Women!!!

4. CSI: Miami (CBS) - 4.0

Heroes was down to a 2.3 rating, it's lowest ever for an original episode and that hit Jay Leno who was down to a very poor 1.2 rating and less than 4 million viewers at 10pm. ABC doubled his ratings at 10pm with Castle, CBS more than trebled them with CSI: Miami.

In other news, ABC do particularly well with affluent young people:

I've never understood the appeal of The Alan Titchmarsh Show, it's essentially Middle England television with its 'Best of British'.
