I knew it was not going to work. Entertainment specials will not work there. It probably would've got over 5m on a Friday, over 6m on a Saturday, and over 7m on a Sunday night.
However, I think they're letting the franchise go to waste. It's a very strong franchise, and ITV should be using it more to fill in the gaps.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is also a wasted franchise for ITV. It needs to go back to its original look, because the revamped version looks really cheap. If ITV were to make a marathon out of it for 6 days in mid-December, it would be a very cheap way to make some money. Maybe ITV could make a big campaign out of it: "Who could be a Millionaire this Christmas?". No celebrity/no bullshit. And live shows, with advertising every evening 15 minutes before the start of it. I think it could hold 6m+ in the 9pm slot, and possibly build to a good climax.
So, a real waste. Give Millionaire a two year break before implementing these changes. And with 'An Audience with...', make the shows more often and more poignant. Perhaps, if Robbie Williams appears on Life Stories, air 'An Audience with Robbie Williams' the day after.
I think 'Celebrating...' could also be a popular franchise for ITV, if they do it right. Amanda Holden and Ronan Keating make me less confident. This would be a show more similar to 'Stars in their Eyes' really, with actual musicians. It's quite a nice thought, but whether they can pull it off.
