Does anyone have ratings data for ITV News at Ten this year - what's its highest audience, average, how much has it grown since its relaunch last in Jan 2008?

I know in Britain's Got Talent week it pulled in 6.4m, I guess thats its highest?

Millionaire is way past its peak and there's simply no chance of it ever reaching any more than what it's getting now. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread people watched it in anticipation of someone winning the top prize and when that eventually happened audiences understandably lost interest. It's simply a stale format that should ideally be dropped soon, live shows and a big campaign ain't gonna do anything to change that.

I understand its averaging 2.6m (13.4%) YTD for the 10-10.35pm slot. It also depends whether you include or exclude the local news at the end.

I believe it averaged about 2.4m last year but last year was Mon-Thur versus Mon-Friday in 2009. Fridays rate lower than other nights usually.

Slightly O/T, but I note that all the ITV News bulletins are getting new titles from next Monday on the EPG's.

All bulletins will now go under the generic name of 'ITV News and Weather', apart from the Morning News and News at Ten.

The Morning News will be titled 'ITV Morning News', while News at Ten will be titled 'ITV News at Ten and Weather'.

That's odd, considering the voiceovers call the EN ITV News at 6.30...

Another strong peformance for Collision considering it clashed with Spooks. It really is becoming quite an 'event' as it is denting the other terrestrials every night...mainly the dramas that are on and also increasing the general audience watching terrestrial. Knowing that for the first 3 days Collision can send all of BBC1's programmes to average 4.2m in the 9pm slot compared to last week where they averaged 4.9m bodes well for IAC next week which will perform even stronger.

Waterloo Road continues to be above 5m and remaining stable, but no doubt it will suffer for the next 3 weeks being up against IAC and Corrie. It will be interesting though to see how it holds up and I think anything above 4m will be a success.

It does surprise me that despite Corrie being shuffled around the schedule the Wednesday episodes that are being slotted into place are performing almost as well as the Monday episodes and about a million higher than the Thursday episodes. It shows the audience for Corrie is still there and can't get used to the new Thursday slotting. As long as they continue to perform well there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Really poor night for FIVE, not even the film repeat or Home & Away making the 1m mark. LFSF needs to be axed asap and Britain's Best Brain should be stripped across the 6.30pm slot for its remaining 5 episodes capturing the Eggheads audience and trying out new experiments in that slot. Unless there are rules about the news content?

Good decision imo for CH4 to axe Wife Swap and How Clean Is Your House...as others have said...both past their sell by date and need to be replaced by fresh programming.

Speaking of LFSF, there was an article in Broadcast saying that Five were looking for a consumer show at 7pm to go alongside The Gadget Show which means that LFSF is to be cut by half an hour or hopefully axed.

This is why I believe the show should reinstate the Wednesday episode (and Sunday's) - because viewers will watch and won't mind if it is off for the football. This schedule would be best for Corrie:

Non-football weeks
Mon (double), Wed, Fri and Sun (7.30pm)

Football weeks
Mon (double), Fri (double) and Sun (7.30pm)

This retains 5 episodes a week, moves the 8.30pm Friday edition to Sunday at 7.30pm (where it would get a higher audience) and means it is back at 7.30pm most nights.

Emmerdale can also move back to Sunday, freeing up Thursday at 8pm, which The Bill could potentially move back to.

If Live from Studio Five was a normal programme, they could drop it right away.

However, it is their primetime news quota. They axed the 7pm news and most of their news updates for it. If they axe it they need to try and bring them back somewhere in the schedule.

Five is still committed to provide news in primetime.

I think they really need to move Natasha Kaplinksy's show forward. It's not ideal, but there isn't much else left to try. Maybe they can get away with just the 30 minutes? I'm not entirely sure how many minutes they need?

Just fill 5pm with repeats for a while and then maybe look for some cheap American comedies to fill it - bring some fun into the schedule.

They may have to extend the lunchtime news to make up their daytime news quota and that will probably use up some of Live from Studio Five's budget.

Last nights CMA Awards continued an upturn in awards shows so far this year. Country Music seems to have held up better in the 21st Century than the Grammy Awards. Both the major ceremonies (CMA Awards and ACM Awards) are up from 2000 and near their 10 year averages. Despite a small improvement, The Grammys are still way down.

With a 5.2 rating, they were also more popular with younger (18-49) viewers than I'd have expected. 41% of the audience from that demo. By comparison, 35% of CSI:NY's audience were in the target demo and 59% for Glee.

Also this year, The Golden Globes, The Primetime Emmy Awards and The Academy Awards have all bounced from all time lows in 2008.

I imagine Five wants to get rid of airing news at 7pm and LFSF is the stopgap until they can persuade Ofcom to cut the quota because the 5pm News does fine and that's all they really need for now.

Well yeh, long term the very best option for them is to get rid of that stupid quota.

I think Ofcom will eventually agree to it but then if Channel 4 are allo to axe More4 News and the Lunchtime News then there is no reason wht can't Five get rid of 7pm News, whatever replaces LFSF will do double what it is getting.

I don't think it would be very wise to put Five News up against ITV News. It's not good for viewer choice having two bulletins up against eachother, let alone two commercial bulletins. Plus Natasha has built up a decent audience at 5pm, why go and ruin it?

LFSF is a pain in the backside for sure but I don't believe there is any quick fix, short of bringing in some professional presenters to fill up until Christmas.

Good for ITV1 last night with Emmerdale getting 7m, Corrie getting 8.4m in an unusual slot and the Osmonds thing getting over 4m which is decent. Collision seems to be consistant at 6m now

Waterloo Road is really good this series so it's not surprising to see over 5m tuning in. I did have fears about this series with many new characters but they have carried it off. Next series looks questionable though with many long standing characters leaving. Spooks was dented by Collision

Emmerdale (second episode) and Coronation Street in my view should, tonight for ITV1, get their highest Thursday ratings since the relaunch seeing the poor BBC One competition in the form of a Traffic Cops repeat.

Collision will be up a great deal as well I think.

For those that haven't seen, the schedules have been confirmed for Sunday 29th November, which shows what show will replace Garrow's Law in the 9pm slot on BBC One.

A New Tricks repeat. Oh dear. I know we just had a debate about New Tricks repeats a few days ago, but really, Small Island should be in this slot.

It's just so uncreative.

Why don't they find a BBC3/4 documentary from the past year and chuck it on, promote it as if it is a big primetime documentary.

Maybe less viewers, but its slightly less embarrassing than having to resort to repeats in a prime Sunday slot in November.

Are they not just holding out until I'm A Celebrity finishes before they air Small Island? Which would seem like a fair idea, I guess - though they could try something more experimental. It would mean Small Island will have to air in the 9pm hour after SPOTY which would therefore remain 7-9pm against the X Factor final.

In other news. Some numbers for the amount of Scottish folk getting around STV by watching ITV1 London on Sky or Cable: Doc Martin pulling 100,000 viewers, The Bill and Benidorm 130,000 viewers. Given that only 60% of the Scottish population has access - those are healthy numbers when STV replacements like Greatest Scot pull only 250,000.

Whats on TV magazine actually added into the schedule "To watch [Benidorm/Doc Martin/etc], turn to ITV1 London on..." one week - right next to the STV replacement programme.

Never appeared again though. I think STV may have had a word.

Those figures are devastating for stv. If ITV1 london is getting 100-130k for shows, stv is sometimes struggling to even match that with its opt outs.

Do they think that people will suffer withdrawal symptoms if they have to go without New Tricks for too long? Jesus Christ.

Great for Collision in the most competitve slot of the week. if it loses viewers tonight then that's going to be a massive disappointment for ITV - I think Crimewatch should attract about 4m as normal.

An Audience with Donny and Marie did ok, but what is interesting is the soaps. People prefer the Wednesday episode to the Thursday one in regards to Coronation Street, even if it is sporadic.

BBC1 did well. Spooks took a hit, and it'll be interesting to see how it copes with I'm A Celebrity next week. It may be up as it appeals to a different kind of audience. Waterloo Road is doing excellently and I agree with those who say it is a step up on last series.

BBC2 also held up, benefiting from attracting a different audience to the big two. Channel 4 did alright if not spectacularly. Five's Wednesday night is akin to ITV's Tuesday night. ITV need the soaps to steady the schedule - Five need the US imports.

Regarding ITV's Tuesday nights, maybe they should commision some entertainment programmes for Tuesday 8pm. Gameshows and factual formats haven't worked so well, so why not try another genre. Aim the show slightly more at females as Tuesday's a football night.

When Peter Fincham took over last year, he said that there would be more midweek entertainment shows. There hasn't really been anything in the last 12 months, apart from yesterday's Donny & Marie show which let's be honest was just a gap filler.

I don't think it would be wise to move the soaps around again. Swapping the Thursday Corrie and Emmerdale would be fine and could help increase Corrie's audience, but on a Tuesday against Holby it'd fare even worse than now.

John Sergeant's programme's being wasted in its current slot which is a tough one. If it was scheduled early next year at 9pm on Tuesday or a Sunday slot, I think it would have got 4m+.

Anyone would think the way you lot went on about it, that New Tricks was the only drama series in the entire history of British television to be repeated. That will be the final episode from last year's series which was displaced from tonight by Crimewatch.

As sn_22 sort of points out, what's the point in BBC1 launching a new drama in a slot that competes with both I'm A Celebrity on ITV1 and Top Gear on BBC2. Better to hold Small Island back to the following Sunday whenever ITV1 has on will probably be several million down on IAC. Plus, New Tricks will probably do just as well as Garrow's Law will against such competition.
