Collision is a huge hit. I'm very tempted to go back about 50 pages and find the person who was certain it would flop. I can't recall who it is but it's someone other than/or in addition to Robbie.

Over the weekend I'll go through them and see how many Thursday night's have had New Tricks on. Bet it's around 90% over the year. Certainly feels like it anyway!

BBC1 have got a plethora of dramas to show - surely they can find another one if they have to have a repeat?”

Amen. It seems to be the most repeated show on television in peak time. Let's hope this nonsense is at an end after this week and it doesn't replay another whole series in a key slot.

They know it will pull decent ratings, but it's still lazy.

LOL. Really?

It would start dumbing down badstyle, and that's really saying something given the commercialisation of the corporation's output anyway.

In fact, even if it were just through being dumped in a parallel universe for a week, I would just love to see what would happen if the BBC lost its license fee. I would just love it.

Because that way the BBC and ITV would be on a truly level playing field and comparisons would be... *gasp* ... fair!

Are there any numbers floating around for Modern Family on Sky1? (Shown 8 - 9pm Thursdays)

Really hope it's doing well as it's one of the funniest new comedies I've seen in ages.

Quote:
“STV has called for major reform in the way it buys programmes from the ITV Network following a series of recent scheduling disputes.

The Channel 3 licence holder in central and north Scotland recently dropped The Bill and Doc Martin from its schedule as part of an ongoing strategy to favour Scottish programming.

In September, ITV launched legal action against STV to recover £38 million of alleged unpaid network budget contributions.

As relations between the two companies continue to worsen, STV wants a new commercial deal which would enable it to purchase just the programmes it wants from ITV.”

I don't think it's been mentioned here but that's the last time Defying Gravity will be stinking up the Thursday schedule as the rest of the series is being dumped late on Saturdays.

Can you imagine if it weren't for the license fee, there would be no alternative to ITV, that would be scarey
I know ITV is commercial and has to churn out stuff for purely ratings, so therefore they go for a certain type of programme, ie soaps and talent shows and that jungle thing. I can't help it but that's what I associate it with and I never watch the channel, (sorry I watched TXF last week out of curiosity, big mistake ).

There is some dreadful stuff on BBC too, Traffic Cops for instance, but there is alot more variety in general and BBC2 is my fav station, I would be so disappointed if it disappeared.

I think there's plenty of room for both to be honest, they cater for different markets.

Broadcast says that BBC SPOTY will go head to head with TXF final

The BBC isn't perfect but neither is ITV1 and actually that's a good thing because it's not possible to produce new content all year round and so repeats do slip in although I wish they'd New Tricks a break, it's become the drama equivalent of Only Fools and The Vicar of Dibley in favourite shows to repeat.

And also, The BBC mantra is Educate, Entertain and Inform and they fill all three criterias nicely.

Well not quite I think SPOTY will be 7-9pm and TXF 8-10pm?

Well im sure you would be petty enough to go back 50 pages. Its just lovely to see another poster with so much bias towards ITV who positively cant wait to see the BBC fail at anything.

But Top Gear will be on at 9pm. "Which one of you three gentlemen volunteers to take a splat the week before for the sake of the BBC?"

Can SPOTY and TG stop TXF beat the BGT final's average audience? Unfortunately for the BBC it's a year ending in an odd number so no Olympics or World Cup or Commonwealth Games. Bit of a nondescript sporting year all round. They'll have to hype up the successes of the English national cricket and football teams.

I think X Factor won't beat BGT. I can see the peak being huge when the result is announced but im guessing SPOTY will be airing its stronger our against the first X Factor hour which will be mainly filler with guest performances etc. Top Gear I would suspect would fall a lot maybe 4 million but those few million would take the edge of the ratings and can see XF averaging about 15.5 million with a peak of 18 maybe.

I cant see the BBC spending much on these programs. They are hardly breaking the bank by paying for a presenter, camera crew and following some people around an auction. Plus they are mostly repeats added to the fact they show things like Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder, shows which are at least 15 years old. I think you will find ITV does make an effort in daytime. Jeremy Kyle, This Morning, Loose Women. All current shows with their presenters picking up big cheques, huge in the case of this morning. The reason is viewers just prefer to watch BBC 1 at this time rather than ITV's offering regardless of your excuse for ITV not making an effort.

So, who should the BBC get to replace Bruce Forsyth tomorrow night? Or should they let Tess do it herself?

According to BBC News Tess will take over Bruce's role and the BBC are still trying to work out what to do with Tess's stuff.

I'm pretty stumped on this one.

They can't possibly go down the Graham Norton/Jonathan Ross route - I think the Daily Mail might actually go completely nuts.

If Anton had been eliminated by now, I think they would have got him to present on saturday but as he is still in the show I have no idea .... I would not be surprised if they went with a presenter who has been a previous contestant in strictly .....

I know he's 'only' a presenter, but anyone think that viewing figures for Strictly might be slightly down because of this?

Gethin Jones? He is a bit blah though.

Yeah, I was thinking about him .... He did The One Show while the presenter were on holiday so it is possible, but saying that .. so did John Seargent! - That's it, my mind is made up, John Seargent should replace Brucie on saturday! !.

Also, not sure if it has been mentioned here already but Big Top starts on Wednesday 2nd December - 19:30.

He's a bit nondescript, but he would work because he's already got the presenting experience and having been a contestent on the show knows how it works. Tess's job is hardly difficult though, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for anybody.

They could get Arlene I think that would ruffle a few feathers, or maybe Dacy Bussell? Or Claudia?

There are a few here who have that same unrelenting bias towards the BBC. So one is right and one is wrong?

Great for Collision though. I didn't expect it to do so well. I can't remember the last time ITV1 won all peaktime slots across the week - must have been when BGT was on.

Strong rating for Collision. Stripping it across the week has worked brilliantly. ITV's on course to have its second best week of the year (in primetime), and first one to win all 7 primetimes.

River Monsters started quite well at 7:30pm with 3.6m (16%). The slot's a difficult one but shows like this and Countrywise seem to be much better draws than Grimefighters. I expect The Lakes and Ray Mears Field Guide to Britain to be shown in that slot next year.

Defying Gravity on BBC2's been a huge flop. No wonder it's being shunted to a late Saturday night slot from next week. Crimewatch did alright I suppose, but not the best of days for BBC1.

The X Factor could get a 5 minute peak of 18m this week I reckon, with the results show averaging over 15m.

I imagine Jedward will survive the bottom two leading to more controversy etc etc til they leave in a fortnight, the week before Susan Boyle arrives to keep ratings up.

If they get anyone to do strictly it would most likely be Claudia I think.

I think they would want to retain the male-female duo. It seems stupid and irrational, but I think it would be weird hosted by two women or two men. I don't really even know why - it just doesn't seem like the way of things.
