Camp music...
Does anyone else really love camp music...i was just watching back to reality just now and the song 'macho man' came on...it reminded me of just how great the village people were and other groups just like them...YMCA and in the navy are two other classics...do you share my love for camp music...what are your favourite camp songs...

Absolutely no way - never !
I lie so badly Supersister - Coffee - fairly new and very camp. Actually I was in a club the other day and they played Popcorn and loads of people danced - I was well shocked (as I bopped away in the corner). It wasn't even played for it's camp nature. I used to be a mobile DJ so I had a great excuse to buy tonnes of really camp stuff and then play it really loud. Watch Priscilla - Queen Of The Dessert .. that has some fantastically camp tunes in it (and outfits to match). |

I wouldn't say I like camp music as a genre, but there are camp artists I like - The Faint, Ladytron and Fischerspooner to name just three. Is poppy electronica a breeding ground for campness?

It depends on what the definition of camp music is. It could be described as cheesy musci I suppose. We come up with these terms for music and I'm never 100% sure of what defines it.
Even the terms pop, garage, house etc. Sometimes we hear something and we can say "yeah that's garage" but try and describe it I can't. Also sometimes camp songs become camp by their association with camp. So was "Finally" a camp song before Priscilla? I have no idea. Wheras "I've been to paradise but I've never been to me" most certainly alwasy has been and always will be thanks to those wonderfully cheesy lyrics. I love all types of music really including camp, whatever we decide it is.

Yeh Kylie's rendition of Your Disco Needs You is so camp but I love it. Also The Lady is A Vamp by Spice Girls is kind of camp.

Some songs just seem to become camp because they love them in gay clubs? Not sure if songs like I Will Survive were originally meant to be camp.
There's plenty of room for an obviously camp group like Village People because they'd be different from all the other pop stuff around at the moment. But groups like Abba, Steps etc were seen to be camp weren't they? |

Too many to mention but I loved Slice Me Nice by Fancy - always gets me on the dance floor to make a fool of myself when I've had too much falling down water
