Judges comments did not match their scores for Laila and Anton
Poor Laila came in for more harsh criticism from the judges after doing a very respectable samba, and I was expecting marks in the low twenties, yet they were pretty fair marks from each of the judges.
What I love about Laila is she is able to take all the criticism thrown at her with good humour and dignity, which is lovely to see and she has become one of my favourites. |

Their criticism was actually aimed at Anton's choreography not her dancing. The marks were ok because she danced quite well. I thought she had more bounce than any of the other Sambas and executed all the moves apart from a very sticky Samba roll pretty well. I actually enjoyed the dance.

I think the judges have sympathy for Laila, because she can only dance what is choreographed, and she can hardly do the roll well if Anton isn't doing it well.
There were some Samba moves in the routine and as said before, it had more of the expected Samba bounce than some routines. I'm hoping its a first step towards better latin routines for Laila and I hope she continues with the positive approach. Anton was much better at encouraging Laila in training (compared to the Jive week), and I think they both enjoyed their latin training for the first time. |

I also thought Anton's comments in the post-dance chat with Tess made sense. Something along the lines of 'That was the first time she's got a dance right the whole way through. Surely that's given her a base? Something we can build on? Start simple, then build from there?'

It reminded me a little of the disco samba that Brendan choreographed for Kelly the week before her dad died. I didn't really have a problem with it as far as disco-sambas go - she performed it well and looked comfortable. It's just that that whole style isn't my bag (and Anton is by no means alone in resorting to it). If they're going to have the style on the show as often as they do, then the marks seem fair enough.

If you are going to award votes for dignity in the face of enemy fire (and it's as good a reason as any) then Jo Wood would have won the whole competition.
I found her a right dilly-dolly but she took the criticism with great grace. A couple of marks here and there - it's not a science. |

I thought the samba was too disco and too easy. I woulsd have prefered a traditional samba, with great brazilian carnival music and bright colours. I think they were slightly overmarked however.
