Zainab and Masood are the most convincing Soap couple on telly - their acting is first class and everything is very real with them. If I didn't know it was a Soap, I would believe that they were actually married and actually a couple.

Their entire family is realistic and that's down to the excellent acting - I didn't think I'd warm to the Zainab pregnancy storyline but I am very, very much enjoying it! Thumbs up to Nina Wadia and Nitin Ganatra - The main reason I enjoy Eastenders is the Masood's! Long live the Masoods!

Love them .. but realistic... this is EE.. no normal family would have to cope with as much as EE throws at a family .. lifes never that exciting or a whirlwind

Haha yes I know. What I suppose I meant was that they deal with the issues EE throws at them realistically - Masood and Zainab's problems were played out very realistically.

I also like watching the Masood family very much, I love the comedy in their acting and the some of the scenarios they find themselves in.

I do disagree with you however that life if never that exciting or whirlwind. I recognise some of the dillemas the EE characters find themselves in, and I think this is what makes a soap watchable..the fact that it is not science fiction, these are real life problems. The fact that sometimes we can recognise something in the script that has touched our own lives. This is why they often play that announcement at the end, "if you have been affected by". I guess some people may actually find a true to life experience being played out in a soap, somewhat healing in some way too, it is possible.

I live with someone who has bi-polar, and believe me, there is certainly never a dull moment!

I think like the Fowlers were they have been realistically drawn and their whole history well thought through. This has been the key to their success. Zainab and Mas have chemistry together as well all too often soap couples can be stood next to eachother like two blocks of wood but this couple you can believe in.

I thought that's what the writers had planned for her once we found out the little girl Heather was expecting suddenly changed to being a boy. But if the rumours are true

I do love them but I love Bianca just that little bit more. Misery Whitney lets that family down for me though, so I prefer the Masoods as a whole.

Great family. Realistic? Sadly not. Most Muslim men I know wouldnt engage in a relationship with a man, not for all the tea in China.

not saying what they face is not real .. that one family would face so many moralistic/health ... issues in one go...

They're great!

I loved it last night when Zainab said "I was walking through the market and I could feel everybody staring at me thinking 'there's that poor woman with the alcoholic son!'".

I find them a bit irritating. The way the mother talks about Tamwar I thought he was about 15 until his birthday and he was 19!

She does go on a bit and always seems to be up in arms shouting about something. For a pregnant older mother she isnt exactly doing herself any favours. She will end up with high blood pressure at that rate.

Tamwar is a nonentity for me he just looks a bit gormless. Oh well everyone has there own ideas about these things.

I thought it a bit strange. Isnt it illegal in Islam? If so why was Syed so fired up with Tamwar drinking alcohol as that is illegal too. A bit too faced surely.

That is one thing I admire about Muslims they in the main stay within the rules of their religion well the friends I know do.

That's the point of the storyline though. Homosexuality is forbidden by Islam but gay people can't help being gay, whatever their religion, and that's what Syed is struggling with. Gay Muslims do exist, but many (probably the majority of them) are forced to repress their sexuality, or stay in the closet, in order to conform to their beliefs and pressure from society. That's not exclusive to Muslims either, some Christians are just as bad.

On a more general note, I totally agree with OP. I love the Masoods, they're definitely my favourite family. I didn't like Zainab when she first arrived, as she was so horrible to Denise, but I've really warmed to her now. They are very "real" as characters and as a family unit. My favourite is probably Tamwar, he's such a funny and adorable nerd type, bless him!

The story, writing and acting is very, very good (certainly the best thing in EE at the moment for me). The actors are all great and interact so well.

Yes, the dad's name is Masood, and the family's second name is Masood.

Well this is the point of the storyline................. its forbidden but it still happens.

You're not one of these people who think men like Syed don't exist in real life are you?
