On a standard Sky box you can obviously add an additional non post code EPG channel to the system albeit that its selectable from the additional channels menu, and what I wondered is whether its possible to do similar with the FoxSat HDR?

My reason for asking this is that even although the frequency of the channel I want (10.904V 22) is rapidly scanned during the tune up, the station I want from the selection on that frequency is North of the Border (STV) and as such my post code excludes it from being stored, something which I can do on the Sky box.

To save me wading through the horrendous manual supplied with this device I would appreciate if someone experienced in the finer(?) points of the FoxSat HDR could advise on this, or is it another case of Humax doing their own thing as far as software design is concerned and ignoring the sheer user friendliness of general facilities offered by competitors products, especially so in the Freeview ranges. (Vestel software a delight to use!)

If it's FTA you can store it, yes.

Go to non-freesat mode, it's in a menu.

If you don't want the "regional channels" your Post Code gives you, have you thought about entering a Post Code for the area you do want?

You can enter a postcode for any area in UK. It only tells the software which channels to store in Freesat mode.

You can't get into non-freesat mode until you actually add a channel. Go to Menu/setup/manual tune, change the transponder from all to the one you want and OK on search. Save the result. You will now be in non-freesat mode and the Settings menu will have an option to switch modes. Bear in mind that at unless you want to wait for the V04 firmware that this will delete your freesat recording schedule so make a note of it first.

Alternatively if you want to regulary record STV and you don't mind losing your local ITV 1 region at 103 there's nothing to stop you using a Scottish Postcode, this will leave you London ITV on 977 for access to ITV HD and of course you can add your local ITV 1 in non-freesat

People living near a TV zone boundary may wish to toggle between zones, for local news or weather forecast jokes.

Has this been raised before.

I recently waded through changing post-codes & it wasnt quick.

You get all the BBC regions anyway whatever postcode you use it's only the ITV 1 region stored at 103 that's unique unless you use a London Postcode when you get a duplicate. A Factory Reset to change the postcode should only take a few minutes (the same time as it takes to do a freesat channel scan). I asked the question why all the ITV 1 regions can't be in the epg and the answer is ITV want you to watch the local ads.

I am using mine currently with an Exeter postcode (I live in the Midlands) but want to use the much better picture from ITV 1 West Country

Thanks Graham and others for all the comments / suggestions made regarding my query and taking note of what was said have tried out various tests, unfortunately however I have been unable to find what I consider to be a satisfactory solution to this difficulty and on thinking about it feel that its really caused by a situation similar to niggling things experienced with the 9200 freeview PVR's, insomuch that software deficiencies spoils an other wise excellent and reliable device, the complete reverse of the situation when dealing with extremely user friendly Vestel chassis PVR's, where in their case its hardware problems that spoil them. (another story though!)

Reading between the lines of what you mentioned about ITV wanting people to view their local adverts, yes! I can quite understand that as far as their advertising revenue side of things is concerned, but I do not see why Humax designers bothered about that aspect when designing the software, that is of course if indeed they did? and if so was it maybe because there was some financial reason (incentive?) for them to exclude this convenient facility, however in my opinion the FoxSat HDR not being able to do this has resulted in a less than satisfactory device whereby if I am viewing something from North of the border on BBC1 and wish to get another non BBC slant on the story, I cant immediately switch to the ITV equivalent in the region without going through a annoying time wasting exercise, this making me now hope that someone else will jump on the freesat recorder bandwagon with software which can offer this facility.

(Haven't investigated the Goodman's offering as yet, as I have more faith in Humax hardware reliability)

I think you will find it's the freesat spec not humax's software that precudes making all the itv regions available in the one epg. The justification for even having London ITV as an extra region is the audio description capability of this channel
