All depends on how it's performed. It would definitely suit his voice, but if he messes about with it too much (like pretty much every other song he's ever sung) it might not go down too well!

Well you say that, but The Eagles would never say they were POP either and nor would I and having seen them live in the 1970s I would say rock, soft rock but rock none the less. Some of their songs are more into a rock mould as well.

Misslibertine, I was joking. but Jimi for some is what rock was about in an age back then, his death probably hyped it even more, like Kurt Corbains did.. does not mean they were not good artists, bit too ROCK for me at points but I can listen to some of it.
