My local paper had a small piece today saying that Jane Asher is being lined up for next years Strictly (bit early )

Ran a google search on her and she looks fab- apparently she's 5'6 so Jane and Matthew?

Jane looks damned good for a 63 year old - I reckon she would be very graceful, though like all the mature contestants she would struggle with latin!

I am getting Cherie Lunghi vibes off her.
I hope she does it now!

Yes, give me a brimful of Asher!

Is this just because we've lost this year's ex-rock-missis and they want to make sure another one's in the picture?

She was a contestant on Maestro last summer and came over as a buttoned-up old-fashioned schoolmistress type. Very much a perfectionist, but a little cold.

However that was only my impression from a TV show, she could be the total opposite in real life. She certainly doesn't seem to mind doing a little reality TV, so she could be on the cards (excuse the pun).

She would be fab.......more in the Cherie mould than the Lynda Bellingham mould. Also the couples would love the cakes she would make and the charicatures that Gerald Scarfe (her husband) could draw of all the couples.

Who do you think she could dance with?

Matthew Cutler he is due an older lady and I think they would be a good couple.

Agreed!! She would be really excellent! I have been lusting after Jane since my formative years.

Of course, at this stage they havn't even started putting out feelers for next year. That normally doesn't start until March. I think she is the sort of actress who can afford to take three months off to do strictly; she generally doesn't do films these days and is selective over what she takes on.

After all, she has little left to prove to anybody - except, possibly, that she can dance!

I would love to see the beautiful, classy Jane Asher do Strictly ... I thought she was terrific on Maestro.

Incidentally, she is one of the contributors on the BBC4 documentary Ghosts in the Machine about the supernatural on British television tonight at 9.00pm ... discussing her role in The Stone Tape - the 1972 Nigel Kneale classic ghost story.

I hope the rumours are true. She might give us our first ever over 40 winner.

Personally I don't think she will be that good remember her in films when she was young and she didn't appear to have that much rhythm then!

isn't she an ex of Paul McCartney (in the 60's)

I think she'll be best remembered for her range of vegetarian pies sold by a major retailer where some varieties were alleged to have meat in them.

I think they should get Nancy De Lolliwhatshername as the old persons crumpet.. could partner her with Dazzler, and Sven Goran could then partner up with Lillia for the crack....

I think you'l find that was Linda McCartney. Jane has only produced cakes, as far as I know!

If so I apologise, but I knew it was one woman connected with Paul McCartney.

That's right. She was his girlfriend in the sixties. Went to India with the Beatles in the flowery days of peace and love and moustaches. She is married to the cartoonist Gerald Scarfe now. PM went on to meet Linda after they broke up. All the fans wanted him to marry Jane and were furious with Linda. Jane was a stereotypical 60s dollybird and Linda wasn't.

Poor old Jane, she always seems to get leading roles in absolute Turkey's.
The Crossroads Revival, The Palace, Old Guys- she never seems to have perfect judgement when it comes to accepting roles.

Well cast in Holby City I thought.
A total change of character from the 60s 'hippy chick' I remembered to the 'stiff upper lipped' aristocrat.

Sad but true. On the plus side along with her cake books she's written three excellent novels ('The Question'; 'The Longing'; 'Losing It')and a children's fancy dress costume book - might be worth a look at for Halloween - and loads more as I've just discovered.. Still skinny after all these years - and all those cakes!

It's none of my business who the BBC choose to be on this programme, assuming they will accept. I've read no firm evidence that Jane Asher will appear.

But as I often say;

"Err.. Help me out here.."

If it's OK next year, for someone like Jane Asher to "trip the light fantastic" at the age of 64, why isn't it alright for Arlene Phillips whilst sitting on a chair at the age of 67, to judge her perfomance?
