Foxsat HDR hard disk failure
chemoboy
27-10-2009
Hi

I've had a Foxsat HDR for nearly a year now and it's (mostly) been reliable.

However, when I switched it on last week it took ages to start up. After about 5 minutes of displaying "Boot" the picture appeared on the screen but with the message "Unable to detect HDD. Check HDD" or words to that effect.

Presumably this is a hard disk failure and my options are: take it back to get replaced or replace the disk myself.

Am I on the right lines? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Also, I can't find the receipt. I think I got it from Comet but I'm not sure. Do you think they would accept it anyway?

Did you paid on a card if so have you the statement as that should be proof of purchase

ebuyer were doing 1tb Hitachi drives for just under £50.

Have been using one for the last 3 months. Only complaints are from the other half as it is slightly louder than the original.

It would be in the interest of other members if you or others who install a new hard drive in there hdr , give the hard drive model number , so they can be compared for price and compatibility.

Hope that helps a bit. Have a second one in a network storage and its much faster then the one it replace.

Doesn't the HDR have a two year warranty?
So if the HDD fails it should be replaced FOC by Humax.

My hard drive fails a while ago and I made a posting of my experience of getting a replacement machine under warranty at:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1079730

Standard warranty is 1 year but some retailers such as John Lewis were offering two.

I am sure when I ordered mine ( from a well known Retail Park shop!) Humax's own website said 2 year warranty so I assumed this meant they ALL had a 2 year manufacturers warranty (as did the 9200T).

Regardless of this the SOG act states that goods must be fit for pupose and a HDD is expected to last for more than 1 year (most HDD manufacturers offer 3 year + warranties) so a free fix should be expected.

I have had 2 Humax's relaced by that well known retailer. my 9200 & 9300 both faulty so I took them back. The 9200 had its HD go and was just in guarantee period and they said get another box off the shelf so I got then 9300 with bigger HD. didnt charge anything. Then yesterday after nearly 12 months I took the 9300 back cos of crashing all the time. this time paid differance between boxes and got Foxsat HDR

So cant fault them for customer service.
