Sadly i think you're spot on Bobbla. 8.5 hours training this week?! its never gona happen is it? flying under the radar he aint, flying on a wing and a prayer... more like it.

Katya looks to be trying 100%. She showed Phil exactly the sharp, aggressive, confident, authoritative man's character he needs to have for the Tango. Phil is about 10% of the man Katya was.

Phil has got away with being himself so far. He wont do that in the Tango. I was very unimpressed with his efforts in training, and I think he is letting Katya down, because there were a few glimpses that if he really tried, he could do a good Tango.

he's anonymous for me - I can't actually remember any of his dances and when he's on I normally go and make tea

If you go out of the room when he's on then that might explain why you don't remember any of his dances.

I read somewhere that the lack of training of hours is due to his knee playing up - not sure about the reliability of the info but it might explain what's going on.

I think Len's comments were spot on - Phil could improve so much if he put in the hours to polish his performance.

Given the few hours that he trains (with all the rest breaks etc) he manages to do a remarkably good dance on the night. He could be so much better with a bit more commitment but he gives the impression that the training bores him.

I was disappointed when Phil responded in Tess's room that there weren't enough hours in the day to do more training. He's already stopped turning up for morning sessions!

Come on Phil ... put the time in if you're serious about this!

The explanation makes sense. It's hardly likely that he would be advised to spend hours on his feet dancing after surgery, albeit minor on a crucial joint.

His dancing is like his cricket career - moments of inspiration, but long periods of nothing with no real will and desire to train hard to make the necessary improvements.

He seriously needs to get his act together.

It was Phil's Tango and Ricky's Quickstep that I watched again last night before going off to bed.

It's a bit of a laugh! Why should he kn@cker himself now? He never has before.

Anonymous? No. Under the radar? No. He's spreads himself thinly, a bit of a dilettante. Don't expect him to devote himself to dancing. He has lots of interests.

As a cricket fan, I remember the old Tufffers, what a p**t in those days. But I feel he has completely turned himself around. He is such an amusing captain on "Question of Sport" and other bits and pieces you see him in as a guest.
I think he is trying to up his game, but isn't just in it to win it.
I personally hope he stays in a few weeks longer, he is not lazy, just not as obsessed as some are perhaps.

Well he learned the routine. He danced it like it was a sombre Waltz.

There does need to be a partnership, and Katya is doing everything she can to keep them in. Phil looks like he's not made any real commitment to being part of the team.

He could dance much better if he worked with Katya, but he will be very forgettable after this series is over. I dont expect him to change for the better - if anything, I expect him to try less.

I hope people notice all the effort Katya is putting in (she has shown herself to be a very good teacher), and it isnt lost under Phil's indifference.

I liked Phil's tango and I liked his salsa.
I think he has been undermarked from the outset

No allowances were made for his op , but Ali had plenty of allowance for her injury . Dancing with no shoes in the dance off ? surely an H and S issue if nothing else .

They are one of the few couples who make this series watchable, along with Chris and Ola and Natalie and Vincent.

All the Latin has been woeful by and large and the Latin dances usually really provide the woe factor . Unfortunately the Latin has been weak in the last 2 series .
There are few real fun partnerships and even fewer with any chemistry.

Phil won't last much longer , but I think he is really enjoying the dancing , and he has real potential ; his tango was at least as good as Chris's cha and Natalie's jive .

Having said that isn't he and Ricky supposed to be getting the lion's share of the vote ?or was it Phil and Chris ?

His Tango was better than Chris's CCC and Natalie's Jive, but they werent hard to beat.

Phil is fun and I'm enjoying that side of him.
The problem I have is that he has potential (as you said), but he's not prepared to get out of his comfort zone. For a lot of people, the more they put into the show, the more they get out of it. Katya said he's a man of habit and one of the signs that you are getting old is when you're not prepared to change.

I just wish dancing was something at which he was willing to find out how could he could be.

Can i just point out Ali did have shoes on.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/realityt...i-bastian.html

By the looks of it it was either do it like that or not do it at all

I think its a shame about Phil really as i have a feeling that if he really put the work in he'd be surpassing Chris and Natalie by a mile by now and would be snapping at the heels of the top dancers.

But like i said earlier in the thread the fact hes so laid back is a large part of his charm. I'd still love to see him go a lot further but if he doesn't pull his socks up i know i for one am going to resent the fact hes not trying while other hard workers are going home.

I agree that he should have passed Chris and Natalie by now and should be giving Laila a fright. Is it that he isn't trying ? I don't know

And my TV is not big enough for me to see the practice slippers , which I guess saved Ali slipping . What had she done to her toe anyway ?

Ali smacked her toe off her sofa running barefoot through her flat. Stupid accident really.

Phil should have definitely passed Natalie by now but then so should Chris. Both have the ability. I think Chris isn't being pushed enough - Come on Mrs Jordan - or is it that she doesn't know how to push him enough?

Phil i think is just too laid back and not putting the required work in.

I don't really see how he can put the required amount of work in only 2 or 3 weeks after an arthroscopy. I know they're pretty straightforward procedures these days, but there's still a rehabilitation period required before a patient can undertake physically stressful activity.

I LOVE Tuffers, he's like a guilty pleasure - I love to see what he's going to do each week.

Will he win? Nah. But he's great to watch.

I just find that there's something unfinished about him. He never seems to be as groomed as the other men and treating the whole thing as a bit of a laugh. It's great that he's enjoying it and the clips from ITT are funny, but imagine how good he'd be - and how surprising for the judges - if he just took it a bit more seriously and attacked one of the dances with the same zeal as most of the other contestants.

I admire him. He is totally laid back and not being competative. He enjoys himself and I don't think he would be too upset if voted out.

That tango surprised me with how good it was - I expected it to be fairly horrible, but the styling was not at all bad (though the I'm trying-not-to-wee-myself-laughing face was a bit hard to get round ) Katya seems to have worked hard on straightening out Phil's shoulders (which have been horrible throughout the series) and getting him to 'feel' the dance a bit more.

I wonder whether either of them realise what the 'refinement' is that the judges keep banging on about, though it's all too clear to us viewers. In the same way that Craig doesn't realise what he's doing wrong, maybe Phil needs a good session with the videos of himself compared to others to see what he could improve.
