Not so beautiful in the fur (as it were) hence the name Tatty Wouldn't let me near him for months but eventually let me stroke him, deflea him and cut out some of his matts.

Bought that little house specially for him. Before that he was in an old cat carrier weatherproofed with cardboard and bin bags LOL

Done - although I did get my Ella from a pet shop. We tried to go to a cat charity and were told no because A) we worked. B) We didn't have a cat flap C) We didn't have a secure enough garden - although we have had our garden fixed now.

We were desperate and went to a pet shop and kinda felt it was mean to be now. Although we got our second a day later from gumtree, which is probably worse!

I don't blame people for buying kittens from Pet Shops when the rules of some rescues are so strict. The only rule I agree with is the one about living on a busy road but if the cat is going to be an indoor cat then obviously no problem there either.
However I don't think kittens should be in a pet shop in the first place for the reasons listed on the petition.

Thanks for signing

I've signed BUT I do have a story to tell...

This is Amber http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture875.jpg

And she came from a pet shop

We both work so were unable to rehouse a kitten... I confess we were actually looking online for breeders and went to the petshop to get out 'cat stuff' in anticipation of our new arrival. I had no idea pet shops were allowed to sell kittens

Anyway - that's where we got Amber!!!

There were 4 kittens in total - all were rehomed as I did contact the shop afterwards....

Amber was taken to the vet a week after she came home with us and sadly had cat flu - she was treated, innoculated and has since had her boosters / been spayed and chipped and was recently (aged 18 months) proclaimed very healthy by the vets when she had her check up.

I know people will disagree - but I really do think that us buying Amber that day ensured she grew into the healthy, crazy, beautiful girl she is today. I just hope all the other kittens were as fortunate?

I am not making excuses, I so genuienly hate the idea of kittens being sold in such a way.... But we can't be the only people in the world who have gone through such channels to get a kitten and taken the responsibility very seriously?

We were not legible to rehome kittens - maybe if the criteria was slightly less stringent then people wouldn't resort to pet shops and breeders?

Amber is beautiful
As I said in the post further up this thread I am not against people buying kittens from pet shops (hopefully the majority go to loving caring homes such as yours).

It's the fact they are there in the first place that bothers me (for the reasons listed on the petition) and I have also (on another forum) read threads from people who have bought sickly kittens from pet shops and have no clue at all how to take care of them even going so far as being outraged that the shop wouldn't take the kittens back and refund their money Kittens are living breathing creatures with basic needs and for their supposed *carers* to fail them at the first hurdle makes me very sad

Thanks for signing Rainbowgirl

I'm sorry OscarsMum, but I cannot in good conscious support a campaign that seeks to remove the right of PEOPLE to sell animals . It is not for the government to dictate what private individuals can and cannot sell (within prescribed boundaries, such as not endangering people).

It is clear that this campaign is being organised by an elite cat loving fascists organisation who want to corner this particular trade for themselves.

It is telling that they want the government to setup a vetting process so that an “independent” body can vet the suitability of cat owners and where they will be kept, with a (cough) small administrative charge. (HINT: no more house cats!). Three guesses of who would make up this independent body!

I also see one famous cat charity (not the RSPCA) have also supported the move, despite initially campaigning against it. There change of mind coincided with the suggestion that all cat purchases will have a surcharge contribution of 10% that goes towards the good work of the cat charities. While this has little chance of becoming law, it demonstrates that money and control are the key factors in play and not the welfare of cats

You are entitled to your opinion.
However you should not make assumptions and should stick to proven facts/truth.
I have no desire to get into another argument with you Keiō Line. As far as I can tell you like to cause controversy on the boards and I've wasted enough of my time and energy on you already in the other thread.

I am somewhat surprosed by this as I did not feel we were "arguing" on the other thread. I will happily try to keep out of your way. Sorry I do feel strongly about this, but not enough to cause you to be upset, please accept my apologies.

It is worth noting that I belive that without exception everyone on the pet forum is on the same side, and confrontation arrises becuase we just have different ideas on how to acheive the same goals.
