Roy Cropper has got to be the best soap character of all time...he is a complete geek and he talks about the most boring stuff...it is hilarious...do you like good old Roy?...

david nielsen is a terrific actor.the roy character is great because of all the great dialogue-all those fancy words and obscure historical references.i loved it when he made hayley a 17th century meal-classic.

He plays the type of character that every knows for real in their everyday life - the sort you scratch your head at, and smile at.
And hope and pray they don't start a conversation with you!

I think Cropper is very well played in the understated-yet-odd moments; though I don't especially care for the actor's delivery in the more emotional scenes, it becomes a bit mawkish and overblown, I think. The character really improved when Hesmondhaigh (sp?) became his love interest, they have good screen chemistry in their own way.

I enjoy watching the performance, it's good to have diverse characters, though I don't actually find the character endearing in the same way many do.

I reckon the best bits of his character are those that this actor adds, and aren't scripted. Like Hilda Ogden, he lives in a world that is separate from everyone else, and doesn't live to suit others. He is very self aware, and needs no validation from others. These are always the most interesting and long lasting characters.

Sorry but I can't stand the character.. Also isn't he very similar in real life..

I'm sure I saw him on something and he's pretty much the same.

From what I remember he is exactly the opposite in real life

Yes, I like him, I would miss him and Hayley if they left. Somehow they do work very well together, Hayley's character also improved when she and Roy got together.

I like Roy. I think his character is well researched and sensitively observed. He's a bright, gentle, honest man with an innocence and vulnerability about him. Roy is a walking encyclopaedia and I suspect loves nothing better than locking himself away in his wealth of worldly facts and figures. He finds the world a confusing place and often feels socially awkward. He needs routine and as long as he can make lists of things to tick off, he can cope and knows where he is. Meeting Hayley has been great for his confidence. I find him fascinating.

Ask yourself, who would you go to for advice on personal matters, Roy & Hayley or Steve & Karen McDonald who would mostly blab out your most sacred secret in The Rovers within half an hour.

I love Roy too!! Also, David Nielson is the total opposite of Roy. He took u for a tour of the street about 3 months ago one day when he'd finished filming - a fantastic bloke

Roy & Hayley make a great screen couple and David & Julie perform their roles very well. I just hope that they don't drag this baby storyline out any longer as it's readily apparent how limited an actress Kate Ford is when she's in scenes with David & Julie.
