For me, Waterloo Sunset is the definitive London song, it brings tears to my eyes with every listen.

Just watched the documentary, absolutely fantastic. Ray Davies is one of the greatest lyricists, and easily the most under-rated, this country has ever seen.

Without question. An amazing song.

Very true. He wrote brilliant melodies too.

It was excellent, and quite sad really.

Also, Ray is on BBC Radio 2 at 1200 on Thursday 30th. Interestingly, he's also with Dave, so it'll be very tense listening.
Handbags at dawn then if those two are in the same room. Sounds intriguing if Dave's with him on an interview. Maybe they will work together once more.

I missed the programme about Ray as for some reason I thought it was on later this week.

Anyway for me and anyone else that missed it, or those who want to see it again, it's now on BBC iPlayer until Tuesday 28th December 2010 (11:54pm)

I'm fine with viewing the programme about Ray on iPlayer, xxtimbo. Maybe someone else would like it?

Here's another classic single, one that gets sadly overlooked. I bought this in the 70s convinced it would be the next Kinks number one, but it bombed. It gets left off of most compilation albums too.

" I wrote that when I was 22... " said Ray !!! wot a talent !
but a very introspective guy... lots of talk
of the 60s .. and yet I dont think the Beatles get a single mention !

Of course!

Well, I've heard they're working on a film about their lives, and a film version of Schoolboys in Disgrace.

Just watched Imagine programme off tape (low budget me!), a wonderful way to spend 80 mins odd, had it gone on twice as long I'd not have got bored as it had only really covered the "hey-day" era in anydepth song wise. He didn't stop writing great tunes in 1970.

~~~~ Happy 67th Birthday, RAY! ~~~~
Raises cup of tea to Ray. Not quite 'Afternoon Tea' but it's tea all the same.
Happy B-Day Ray!
It's a pity it's being so overshadowed by The Legendary Rebecca Black.
Who?
Now for the real legends!
Happy 67th birthday Ray, and happy 69th birthday yesterday to Brian Wilson.
Aww Happy Birthday to Mr Davies He's such a gifted songwriter, and so humorous too. Plastic Man still makes me giggle ever time I hear it and I've been listening to it for a few years now!
It had to be done - got to wish the birthday boy good wishes. He's probably still blowing out his candles, tee hee!
However, it's almost a year since the passing of Pete Quaife.
Wonder what Ray got for his birthday? Maybe he got a book from Dave called 'Brotherly Love'?
I'd heard that when that song was out it was banned because of a naughty word. *Whispers naughty word to poppyblue* "Bum". Shocking isn't it?
I find the ♫ "and when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight. He feels a dedicated follower of fashion"♫ amusing. It's the frilly nylon panties - makes me laugh.
Well, I never! Can't say I'd ever made out that word before. Shocking, he'll never get anywhere using language like that!
I usually have a wee naughty snigger at the 'panties' line myself, though it's the 'Right. Up. Tight!!' bit that does it for me.
Pair o' weirdoes we are!
Another song I find amusing is '(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman'. The bit where he's on about his body and then says it makes him depressed! Ha ha! It's the way he delivers those lines not just the lyrics themselves. Superb!
The BBC live version of Scattered is really good in my opinion.
In other news, the Kinks now have a VEVO on YouTube, and one of the videos is up in pretty good quality... Scatted
Interestingly, theres a scarecrow with an anonymous mask
The quintessentially English songwriter celebrates another birthday.
All hail Mr Davies.
