Thanks Swizz, I have reported the problem but here is my original question;


My brother-in-law has just bought a Foxsat pvr, dish and LNB.

Does he have to use the power supply from the receiver to power the sat-finder meter (even though the PVR has not yet been 'set up' ) or can he rig up his own power supply via 2 x PP9s?

On switch-on the instruction book says the pvr asks for a postcode and starts a Freesat search - so it is not known whether there is any voltage on both or either lnb coax feeds to line up the dish before the set-up can begin.

If he can use the 2 x PP9s what is the polarity on the coax inner and outer conductors?

When I set up my HDR the dish was already set up for a Sky box. (same direction for same satellite ) so I've not been there.

However a satmeter would not be much use if it didnt work with a new set top box !!

I've heard about folk using batteries to set up dishes without using a coax connection to the Set Top Box. But if you are setting up the system there is no point.

If you are unsure about polarity, just make sure the connection on the satmeter marked LNB goes via about a meter of coax to the LNB (a meter lets you stand behind the dish, while manouvering the dish).
The other connection, usually marked "to reciever" goes via a longer coax to LNB1 on the HDR.
See p16 of the user manual for the various options.

Hi,

The central conductor of the cable is positive (13 - 18 volts) and a couple of new PP9s should be able to deliver enough current for the LNB and satfinder.

But there's very little advantage because the default setting of the STB has power applied to the LNB1 input and at some stage you have to use the STB to confirm that the dish is pointing at the correct satellite(s) at 28 degrees E before you can assume that the dish is properly aligned.

The PP9 solution was just in case there was no power to the LNB on switch-on (i.e. before set-up). I'll get him to try connecting the LNB1 coax to power the satfinder.
