What's a "hummy.org. Google Hosts File".

I've navigated to the directory where the host files seem to found. I tried editing (notepad) the "hosts" file but it would only let me save as a txt doc which would be no good.

So I guess the question is how do I get the "77.74.196.104 www.hummy.org.uk" into the hosts file?

Thanks and sorry for being a bit thick!”

don't do a save as.. just edit the file and close it and windows will prompt you to save.

If you want to play safe you could always make a copy of the file before editing and save it in another location, just incase you make a bit of a whoopsy

Thanks, that worked.

Problem was file was read-only - corrected that and bob is your uncle

Yep looks like the hosts file trick doesn't work due to the use of proxy server used - working fine at home with hosts entry.

Looks as if even the host file edit no longer allows entry. Has Hummy.org finally bit the dust ?

Same here.
Was working earlier after altering the hosts file, now not working.

It's working for me no problem. I still have the hosts file entry though.

Namesco says that the domain has been "suspended". Bit of a coincidence... today is exactly one month after the domain renewal date ! Cheque got lost in the post ???

Yes, a 'whois' check does show domain name suspended. But the site is working for me and I don't have any special hosts file reference to it. The IP address I'm getting when 'pinging' hummy.org.uk is 77.74.196.104.

I can ping that IP address, but not www.hummy.org.uk, says "Ping request could not find host www.hummy.org.uk.", so maybe just a DNS problem.

I can ping the www.hummy.org.uk address OK with, or without, the HOSTS file entry.

There are currently 20 people logged on there, 39 people have been logged on today.

It does look like a DNS problem, but some ISPs may be using a cached copy enabling some to get through.

Rgds.
