How good are SHARP PVRs
I am planning on buying my mummy a new PVR for Christmas (actually it will be her first PVR) and I can get a good deal with the SHARP PVR (do not know the catalogue number or anything, just its a SHARP) so has anyone got a SHARP PVR and are they any good, as its a product I have little knowledge off, hope someone can help and thanks for reading BBUK

..... and how good are Vestel ones, its just again I have not heard of the make, where is it "financially" is it cheap as Technosonic (Woolies own make) or is it SONY/Panasonic and how reliable are they?
Vestel is a large Turkish company, and make cheap jumk for many different companies, most Supermarket TV's are made by Vestel, as are Toshiba below 32 inch, really any of the junk 'makes' (like Logik, Matsui etc.). It's quite likely Technosonic came from Vestel, Onn from Asda certainly do, as do Technika from Tesco's. The advantage of buying a decent name one (like Sharp) is that there's more chance of software updates gettings sorted out, the more obscure names may never do so. |

There are hardly any decent quality PVR's about, Humax are one of the best - but most are either Vestel or other cheap clones.

The most important thing about these gadgets is the software (firmware)
Therefore it's best to look very carefully at a specific model, rather than the manufacturer. For example the Topfield TF5800 is generally considered to be very good while the Topfield TF5810 is seen as been very poor. The Thompson DTI6300 software has progressed to be pretty good and very reliable whereas in the early days it was awful. |

I bought a Sharp PVR that I thought had a the ability to have TUTV.
In actual fact it's a TUTV PVR made by Sharp; I don't subscribe to TUTV. As a Kitchen/Bedroom machine it's OK. However, I wouldn't recommend it as the main/only PVR. Go for a HUMAX |
